Never forget power efficiency! Don't forget to also look for online reviews where they test if the actual power ratings match up to what's on the box. The ones you named are reliable, I've used both the Antec quattro 1000w and the Corsair HX1000 (1000W), and they both work reliably up to their power ratings. They both run quiet and match up in a bunch of other qualities but the main difference between the two is that Antec is semi-modular and Corsair is fully modular, meaning Corsair was a lot more tidier inside the case, plus it has longer cords than Antec's.

he doesnt have to install linux, just use the gparted livecd version and yes, you can just take out the hdd, you say old laptop so if its ide, you will need a converter to attach to your desktop

you do know that the server environment has already transitioned to 64bit due to higher workloads and memory/hard drive requirements, I don't expect the consumer market to phase out 32bit anytime soon due to low-cost/low-power pc's

you could try using a linux-based disk utility like gparted

i have a 24" monitor but still play only windowed at 1024x768, and like xeno mentioned, you wont be able to focus at points on the screen while keeping the rest in mind, but a 30" monitor, not a tv screen, with 2560x1600 resolution does have a niche for use in visual computing

As for how long it takes to complete the image, I have no clue since I took the screenshot at after 80 seconds, it's still running and is at 1000+ seconds now though I can't tell much of a difference. There's probably less of those speckles. A similar program is POVray which uses the CPU to create raytraced images. There's currently a beta SMP version of it which has been beta for a couple years. Here's the image I took, only editing done is converting from png to jpg.

water it every other day to keep it healthy and green besides I already have parts, I can mix an Antec Quattro 1000W with my current Corsair 1000HX to meet requirements, I use Corsair DDR3 1600 now which overclocks well (though I don't know its limits since I'm not that adept with RAM overclocks, and as for GPUs, I would only buy two of the Fermi-class cards and reuse my old two GTX 280s. And I'm not buying this out of the blue, I've known the six-core processor would come out along with a skulltrail motherboard for it since 08 since it was released on their Nehalem lifechart so I've already saved up quite a bit. NV released new drivers yesterday it seems, I'll install those and maybe install Vantage again and do a more recent bench.
