  1. your computer will do good, but I'm just going throw some stuff out that you can consider: Aftermarket CPU cooler: I can see you're buying the Q9550 (it'd be cheaper to just buy the 9450/9300/6700 and overclock it, as I'm running on a Q9450 oc'ed @ 3.0ghz with 53C) the stock cooler won't allow much overhead space to overclock, and if you just want to get the job done, I'd recommend a Zalman 9700 fan, it also has blue leds to match the case You mislinked the card, but the ATi card, I have nothing to say about, since most high-end gfx perform relatively the same, and you won't be able to see the difference between 45fps and 47fps, but one thing I always feared with ATi was cooling, as they just look too slim, which is why I bought NVIDIA (i rather have a noisy, but cool card, than a card overheating and about to melt, but quiet) I really do recommend getting a sound card, Sound cards are made specifically to make music, game effects, etc, the thing in the motherboard is just there to make sound, nothing else, it may be decent, but it sure won't beat a dedicated sound card; you said you won't be skipping out on anything, so find a sound card that would fit your needs I have an Auzentech Prelude, it gives me what I need to hear your motherboard is okay, but you may run into some problems if you ever get into overclocking, first, your board is not technically a DDR3 1333 supported, it has to be overclocked to be able to support RAM that fast it will work for your ram, but I do suggest getting a higher end board since you look like you're trying to enter the DDR3 spectrum which brings me to my last point, the RAM you're buying an over-rated piece of RAM that was made just to show off the Fatality logo, they are better pieces of RAM with tighter timings by no means is this RAM bad, i'm just saying the pricing is mainly for the name here's some things I believe: -the reviews on newegg are written by people who got products that didnt work (i only had to rma a board once, no problem, just wait a week) -computers must be balanced, fast ram=fast cpu=fast gfx == fast pc ( no bottleneck ) your current build will work, but I thought you would go for more
  2. Dead Space

i'll buy it for the new gameplay the thing that ruins game is when the ai can be glitched/ is faulty/ or just plain stupid i do hope a demo is released
  3. extremely annoying bullshit, i sat down and listen to it for like 10 minutes, left this bs ringin sound in my ears
  4. its not that hard to stay inside it and avoid being killed, just learn where all the rocks are so they dont glitch you
  5. Did you mean fail? Your header clear tells you had previously searched for awesom. Somehow, I keep gettin buffer overflow in deathrun now, never did before.
  6. I'm running Norton 360 right now, but my sub is almost up, may switch to kaspersky. The thing that would defeat any antivirus would be a virus custom-coded for a particular user to do a specific job and nothing else, since it wouldn't be in the database of the av. But most everyday users won't encounter this.
  7. i was a caldari, i had maxed out missiles and crap like that, high levels in intelligence, memory, and perception i may get back into it, turns out theres something called "Empyrean Age" where Eve is in war, so that may be fun We should all get together and form a corp, build a Titan called the "Teh Hagg" and go wreak havoc seriously, I got bored because I was just playin with random people, if we all get together, it may be fun
  8. takes too much time, and I can barely find any friends, most people just try to destory my cruiser every time I get to a jump
  9. widescreen, it is better for watching movies, and plus it just lookers more natural and is easier on your eyes as it fills the natural viewing space your eyes cover
  10. computer cases dont need to be plugged in to a psu if you're talking about the motherboard, it should be one of the cords that runs out of the psu and usually is a 20+4 connector
  11. lmao, the headcrab, apply directly to the forehead one is the best havent seen one of thsoe commercials for a while
  12. Headphones are better for gaming, as you can tell precisely which direction a certain sound is coming from. If you do get headphones, invest in good ones. I got me Sony Noise-Canceling headphones which cost me $90, but I think they're worth it, and with an Auzen 7.1 Prelude sound card, it just puts gaming audio even higher. But speakers are good... if you want to listen to music.
  13. so Apple, did you build it yet?
  14. what? superman is pure fiction while batman holds a vestige of reality, and if a city was that crazy enough, and a rich billionaire was that weird enough, it could happen
  15. if he's going top-line, that is probably the best option for his budget but if you want to stay under $1200, a dual-core or quad-core + an 8800 should suffice for gaming such as source you're not going to able to play Crysis 2560x1600 at very high, but that game is over-rated and I find nothing appealing about it Crossfire is upgrade-friendly as Apple says, since it does not require matching cards as NVIDIA does for SLi but what you buy is your choice to make
  16. provided, that is, if you have enough bandwidth I can't help you with a config unless you can give a reason for the pc and what you're thinking about if you just want to play CSS faster, you most likely just need a faster processor and maybe an NIVIDA 8800 or the ATi's version but if you buy that motherboard, you better not wimp out on the other parts, as you're only as good as your weakest link, so buying a motherboard like that and putting in DDR2 800 won't be that good and as mentioned before, you cannot future-proof a computer since the only possible way is to have a self-upgrading pc, which is currently impossible 10 years is too long for anything out now to still be in play, the 8800 came out little over a year ago, and they're mid-range now, in two or three years they will be value cards anyways, to help you, I need more info //
  17. if it's an .exe, it is an application and should run fine unless it is missing its files, you should no need to set it up to open with any program, but you can try opening it with explorer.exe (vista)
  18. ok, so tell us what the file extension is you can find it by right-clicking on the file and selecting properties the file extension will be in parentheses and will be listed next to "Type of File:"
  19. well not like cs:s config, but yes, there is, but no one usually deletes it since they dont know where it is, so maybe a malicious file did it, but we need *feedback* you cant diagnose without enough info about the problem if he really did reset it, all the files should be asking what program they should be opened with, but this might take an half an hour at most to replace everything back to normal if system restore does not fix it for you, you should try the original vista install cd to repair all vista system files and drivers back to their original working state, then update via Windows Update to the recent versions but yes, please reply Dracula
  20. *he* was the joke
  21. hey, i said etc. not .etc anyways, he may have just reset all the file extensions, since the purpose of an extension is tell the os which program to open that certain file with hence .txt makes vista run the file in notepad
  22. Here's some extensions for the ones you said, but do tell what the file extension is .pdf = Adobe Reader .torrent = uTorrent .html/.htm/.php/.xml/etc. = Internet Explorer .wmv/.mp3/.aac/etc. = Windows Media Player there's more but I'm tired of typing these to know what the file extension is, right click, and select properties on the file the file extension will be listed under "Type of File: WinRAR Archive (.rar)" the WinRAR is an example
  23. ur pc build will work, as the max you will reach if 1680x1050 with a 22", even though i recommend 24" because of the 1920x1200 resolution which will allow full-screen bluray viewing and also if u want a larger multiplier on ur processor, u could just get the EVGA 750i FTW motherboard (but its Nforce) which has an unlocked multiplier on the cpu and costs only around 110 heres something i would build with €2000 and using an ATi platform Case: Antec P182 (€95) looks stylish and can be used in an office, does not have the standing-out look for the Antec 1200, but still has decent cooling, but they both cost nearly the same PSU: OCZ ModXStream 780w (€100) has 4 12v rails with 80% Mobo: Asus Maximus II Formula (€170) good choice overall CPU: Q9450 (€210) may has 8x multi, but it can reach higher clocks with lower temps CPU Cooling: TRUE w/ Scythe Ultra-Kaze 2000 (€60) RAM: OCZ Flex DDR2 1200, 4x1Gb (€125) good if u plan on wc later, which u r interested in, since u spendin 2000 already, and have high perf parts, all the parts have to be balanced, with a fast cpu, comes fast ram, with other fast parts, then an excellent cooler for them, and as u prob wont to have a quiet pc, i do recommend wc HDD: anything with 7200 rpm and above this is your PC, you do not want to get buyer's remorse, if you feel like some certain part is something you would want to have in the PC, get it, since you wont like it when you arent able to run a game, etc just because you're missing those few extra MHz or GB's my pc cost €1500 and its enough to run any old game and new games, so im okay its something like ur first car, except now u have the money to choose what you want, not want ur parents think u want, so take ur time and dont rush into anything
  24. when you buy retail, vista comes with both the 32bit install and 64bit install when you buy oem, it only comes as 32bit or 64bit theres is no realistic way to get 3.5gb as u can only do 2x1Gb and 2x512Mb for 3Gb to get 3.5Gb you would just have to buy 2x2Gb or 4x1Gb buy as the 32bit only has a max value of 4Gb, you would lose 512Mb by your gfx card and also the caches in the processor and hard drives, so it may be like 3470, etc. you can go 64bit as you're buildin ur pc, and ATi and Asus support 64bit drivers, you would only be stuck if u bought a retail pc like HP or Dell that was 32bit, and then switchin to 64bit would prob mess things up, still mosts applications will run the same in 64bit more, some slower and some faster realistically, you prob wont need to crossfire if u only play at 1680x1050 with the 4870, since it has enough power to get respectable fps at larger resolutions if u want to just use 2Gb of RAM, you could go to DDR3 which has faster Mhz but costs way more, but u could call it future proofing (which is technically impossible)
