  1. 'Same circumstances' is a pretty variable term, where the meaning could be entirely different based upon the person's definition. Right now, I can tell you that we have tried all of those things you suggested, and they have worked out horribly (save for the 6 month rule, imo). Completely agree with this. I was outvoted on this, however. The opposing argument wasn't necessarily invalid, I just didn't agree with the reasoning. Absolutely an important factor as to why we don't make the posts private. ----------------------------------- The rest of it seems to be a mixture of BD's not being able to see everything and people favoring their friends. Obviously, we aren't going to see everything - we're 5 people in a community with hundreds and hundreds of people. We do the best that we can, but obviously get bogged down by real life or other things that take a higher priority in the community. I can go on and on with examples, but it's hard to explain unless you have actually been in the shoes of a BD, or any higher rank at a community where there are a ton of people. We have spent entire days doing nothing but responding to PM's, forum threads, and having teamspeak meetings. And that's on a good day / week / month / whatever where our personal lives aren't interfering as much. The best thing I can say is that if you look at the BD description, it says '...anything else that needs to be done.' That can encompass so many things, and usually it does. It's just not a practical use of our time, which is why we allow the entire community to tell us their stories of the person applying for admin. Personal bias is also something that will always continue to exist. There is absolutely no way for us to be able to go through and try and decipher every post, determining whose experiences are real and whose aren't. The fact though is that all of the BD's have almost a decade of time here at SG under their belt. Collectively, we have roughly 20+ years of experience as a high ranking member of a gaming community. While I'm not saying it's impossible to fool us long enough just to get admin, it generally does not happen. The quality of admins we have right now is pretty high, with very few getting strikes or even misusing their admin powers. We do the best that we can to squash bias when we see it, but it's going to exist in every possible situation - "Perfect objectivity is always impossible..." At the end of the day, I can tell you that an overhaul of the admin system is extremely unlikely. The system we have now works extremely well when put in comparison to old systems. If anyone thinks they have a better system in their head, I implore them to send me a PM - because we have collectively yet to find one. Some minor tweaks may occur here and there, but the system we have now is going to be around for awhile.
  2. I'll jump into this discussion when I got off work in a few hours.
  3. When you compare us to almost any other community, we have an incredibly simple hierarchy structure. Most of the communities I see have ranks for every possible little thing. The problem is not only that it looks cluttered, but also the amount of time behind creating a rank. Creating a rank usually is not simply 'give them a name and a color', but usually requires hours of discussions and multiple forum threads, ranging from here in public, the CA section, the AO section, and all the way up to the BD section. Do they get extra server abilities? Extra forum abilities? What do we allow them to do? All these questions may not apply to this specific rank suggestion, but hopefully kind of clears up why we usually avoid just creating ranks to honor a few select people that don't actually hold any extra powers or access rights. I'm not against rewarding people or giving people recognition, but I don't think creating a rank solely for mappers is the right way to go at this time. We'll probably be bringing this up at our next meeting, so thank you for bringing this to our attention.

  5. @SpikedRocker did you see this
  6. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! In the interest of transparency, we will post the regular members here who manage to get themselves banned - along with the reason.
  7. Salutations, We're excited to announce a few promotions! But first, we would like to give recognition to Punky. He has decided to step down from admin entirely due to personal reasons, but we'd like to thank him for the hard work he has done and the hard work he continues to do, namely with ZE. Moving on up to Community Advisor, we have McBride, Suri, Post, and Spiritwind who have earned their new rank! They have showed activity, hard work, and dedication to this community. Their new duties include: Advise the higher staff on important decisions Handling player complaints and issuing bans Moderation of the forum Give awards to members on request Send group invitations to members on request Keep servers clean from rule breakers Issue warnings/kicks/bans Screenshot/demo proof for permanent bans Request permanent bans via on the forum Post in-game server problems on the forum Help in any way to make the servers fun To Administrative Officer, we have decided to promote Jake! He is a long time member and has proven himself over the years. We are sure he will do a great job at his new rank. His new duties include: Verify that servers are operational Reboot dead/lagged servers Manage player bans/appeals Assist in training new admins Handle admin complaints Handle disputes among fellow admins Monitor the Teamspeak 3 server Grant access rights to Teamspeak 3 Search for new maps for all servers Upload maps to the servers and fast downloads site Edit map lists & rotations Issue permanent bans to players via request from SA's Handle reported posts on the forum Please congratulate all of these people! In case you guys have not heard, we are starting the process of moving over to a dedicated server. We are going to be slowly integrating our current servers and services over to the new dedi, so bear with us if you see a server or any particular feature here at SG down for a little bit. Thanks for your patience with this, we believe this will move our community forward greatly.
  8. Honestly too bad, he easily was going to be a hall of famer.
  9. Apple V Android

I used apple for 4-5 years and finally switched over to android a few years ago. I'll never go back to an iphone again.
  10. naw, anyone who was decent at awping could do that in css
  11. I just had my own method of awping that a lot of people found weird. I double-scoped in most situations, whereas the majority of awpers will tell you that's stupid to do. Dunno, but it worked pretty well for me. I didn't usually run around with a sidearm either, CSS physics were awesome that I could just let go of my movement keys and still get a kill if I was technically still moving.
  12. Whenever Xeno and I were put on opposite teams, it was always fun to see who would outawp the other. But yes, my awping skills in CSS are a direct reflection upon my financial situation.
  13. Back when we scrimmed all the time in CSS I recorded pretty much every game. The one time I forgot to record, I probably played one of the best / most surprising matches ever. On season, I 1v5 clutch bomb planted with an awp against a pretty decent team. Killed 4 of them who thought they could push me, then did a double juke with the bomb, and planted it in a spot that made it seem like I was hiding in subway / horseshoe, then finally got the 5th kill after letting him defuse for a few seconds (after he tried to do a few fake defuses). Couldn't see the bomb at all, was relying entirely on sound. Was pretty surprised at how that one turned out. I miss CSS

  18. Hello everyone, After a lot of hard work and dedication, we have decided to promote a few people. To the rank of Community Advisor, we have ShoieP and Leon Mordecai stepping on up. Their new duties include: Advise the higher staff on important decisions Handling player complaints and issuing bans Moderation of the forum Give awards to members on request Send group invitations to members on request Keep servers clean from rule breakers Issue warnings/kicks/bans Screenshot/demo proof for permanent bans Request permanent bans via on the forum Post in-game server problems on the forum Help in any way to make the servers fun On to the big boy promotions: to the rank of Administrative Officer, please welcome SL4DE and Punky! Both have shown extreme hard work and dedication, and we have no doubt they will do a fantastic job. Their new duties include: Verify that servers are operational Reboot dead/lagged servers Manage player bans/appeals Assist in training new admins Handle admin complaints Handle disputes among fellow admins Monitor the Teamspeak 3 server Grant access rights to Teamspeak 3 Search for new maps for all servers Upload maps to the servers and fast downloads site Edit map lists & rotations Issue permanent bans to players via request from SA's Handle reported posts on the forum Please give all of these people a hand and welcome them to their new positions and, as always, standby for some new changes.
  19. Nope, and your request for admin is exactly why we don't take donated servers. I'm not giving anyone access to any of my servers unless they are an AO, TA, or BD. On top of that, you could cut the power to the server at any point in time you get upset or change your mind, which is a definite no-no. Also, with an attitude like that, you will never become an admin here at SG.
  20. It's fucking amazing. 4.3k a month tax free
  21. Contest

Both usergroups of AO's / BD's separately decided that no winners will be selected for either group. No offense, but most of them sucked. Better luck next time.
  22. Contest

Contest is closed gents, standby for results.
