  1. I guess I'm not tracking this. Because you're a minority you shouldn't be represented? I mean plenty of law and executive order is based on edge case scenarios... Doesn't the state too? State can involuntarily remove you as a parent from a child upon evidence of illegal behavior. State can't forcibly abort/birth your child as far as I'm aware.
  2. Abortion - I think most people that use the internet, especially a forum like this, are probably on the side that abortion is ok. I'm a little annoyed by the twitter culture of jokingly yeeting babies and people being "pro-abortion", but the necessity of abortion is clear and more importantly, its autonomy of women to have that right to abort even if there's no medical necessity. Nobody should be forced to carry a life to term, similarly after someone is born there should be no requirement for a mother to take care of said child either. Having sex and the resulting possibility of pregnancy shouldn't result in some consequence of servitude of taking care of a fetus and child. More importantly, states and those people/representatives in them who believe that women should be forced to carry fetuses to term that are from sexual crimes are absolutely disgusting human garbage and have no empathy and should hold no public office. This is one of the most demented things I've ever had to process. The idea that a criminal could rip away your rights and the state would idly sit by and enforce a pregnancy you were given no choice in makes me sick to my stomach. Meanwhile, RvW overturn possibility is just another example of democrats not holding themselves accountable. RvW was shakily held onto, for the sake of summary I would call somewhat a technicality, for so long and all it took was Trump to stuff the court with 3 goofs who would sway for an overturn. It was like the most obvious checkers play and there wasn't much to be done to stop it. Amy being ran thru the way she was, was bullshit and totally hypocritical and that's what enabled all of this. But more important it is democrats who have enabled this. RvW should have been codified decades ago but everyone's abstinence from removing the filibuster ensures that the last 20+ years of lawmaking has all but stalled and no real progress is made. DACA, certain gun laws, gay & interracial marriage, even anti-segregation are in similar situations. Something held on shaky executive or judicial action when it should have been codified so many times prior but once again, inaction creates opportunity for republicans to bully out progressive idealisms. It's also difficult to hold SCOTUS judges accountable, given they are for given the position for life barring impeachment. Meanwhile state congresspeople can be removed from office fairly easy, or through time just naturally retire out. I like the protests against SCOTUS but the reality is there is not much public pressure to prevent this now, they are fairly independent from the American public, congress isn't nearly as cushy in terms of power. One side note but something some may not know- vasectomies/tubal ligations are generally speaking covered by your insurance. That doesn't mean they're cheap, since they'll probably still go against your deductible/out of pocket. But let's say you had some procedure(s) in a year and you maxed out your insurance out of pocket, if you could get your vasectomy scheduled in that year, it's basically free provided you get pre-approval/assurance it will be covered from insurance. Insurance companies like not having to deliver babies, it's expensive. You'll want to check with your insurance company ahead of time on their website or by talking to a rep. Religion wise- the bible is merely a product of an era, modified to maintain relevancy. The Old Testament was clear on many animals not to be eaten- because people were eating raw pork and dying. People murdering those for no good reason. Taking property for greed, etc. The New Testament refined many laws and threw away many Old Testament ways, because they were no longer relevant. Society deems what the Bible holds. King James had more sway over the Bible than the churches today. 20 years ago how many pastors would say gay marriage is a sin? And now? Christians were against gay marriage until society determined it acceptable on a majority level, and now the churches accept the reality that if they do not approve of gay marriage, they will disappear like dozens of religions before them. The Bible frowns upon abortion but this will change in due time, or Christianity will cease to exist. And how many splits will the churches continue to have? As many as it takes to stay relevant.
  3. KB you have is absolutely annihilating me rn, please tell me more if you have time! I plan to build a 75% with blues (thinking gateron) but haven't shopped around just yet, only have some keycaps I bought from aliexpress on ship. I love the keycaps you have though. My setup is crap right now. I'm going to buy buying a new desk (IKEA Alex drawers then getting a butcher block from Lowes and having a friend work some magic on it). I'm looking for a new mouse, thinking of getting Steelseries Aerox 3. KB is Nuphy Air75, I use brown switches. Monitor is Dell S2719dgf or something- I have an arm just not gonna bother putting it on. Dock is a Dell dock but it's from work and they need it so I'm getting a Caldigit TS4 and plan to mount that under my new desk along with some aggressive cable management. Protip friends: don't buy a desk with an entire mousepad as the cover. It's not terrible but keeping it clean kind of sucks tbh. My windows desktop is sitting in my utility closet so not gonna bother taking a picture of that
  4. Post your desktops!

I run a MBP but just use Parsec/Moonlight to game on Windows. Here's my macOS setup: and if you really cared to see my Windows desktop, which is literally nothing:

  15. Dunno specifically about those two or how much they cost but I rent a seedbox from whatbox.ca and use it to seed torrents, tunnel all my traffic using SOCKS5 (Can use OpenVPN, or WinSocks to tunnel certain applications, or merely use a SSH tunnel for web browsing), and I use it to run a few node.js applications. If you're willing to pay more for more options you could go one step further and just get a VPS. They're cheaper and give you full access.
  16. kippe that weather sounds really nice do you think i could stay at ur place at thanksgiving

  21. If you need players I have a couple people here at university that could play that are very good/decent. I'm sure they'd like to compete but without the need to win any sort of prize so we make sure the money goes to SG people only.
  22. What is streaming? To put it simply- we're sharing our screen. How we do this is done through software like Open Broadcaster Software, Xsplit, or by other means. We can use capture cards to share experiences on console gaming as well! Why Stream? Streaming video gaming is important for two main reasons- to show excellent play in video games, and/or to entertain others. Professional players such as DaZeD or Skadoodle are some of the best players in North America for Counter-Strike. Watching them play allows players to better understand the game. There are also great entertainers such as GoldGlove or LethalFrag who provide an experience to their viewers. There are even streamers in the middle ground- those who are excellent players, but provide an entertaining experience for their viewers- players such as Reynad from Tempo Storm on Hearthstone, or n0thingtv who is a Cloud9 CSGO player but an amazing performer at freestyling and crazy antics. How do I stream? Now that we understand streaming and what we want in a stream, we need the tools to create that experience. Hardware Having good hardware is a necessity for streaming. To stream at desirable rates (30~60FPS, 720p~1440p) your pc must be a POWERHOUSE to be able to not only run the game fluently, but be able to stream it frame for frame along with the half a dozen other essential things (from watching twitch chat on a second monitor/computer to having media playing devices open along with the possibility of a webcam) Some of the biggest necessities are: A good microphone: Expensive: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Yeti-USB-Microphone/dp/B002VA464S Mid-range: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OO18NS/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687442&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002VA464S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0DDH1QWREAZX398EGCF2 Lowball Tier: Any headset microphone or basic A good webcam: Good tier: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S OK tier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LVZO8S/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687622&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B006JH8T3S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0XD4ZD79BG38VZ6XNWWW Bad tier: The stuff they put in laptops A good CPU A CPU is the most important factor in whether you can encode at high levels and provide a great experience. Consider getting a better one or rebuilding your PC to better stream. RAM can also be slightly important as with GPU. Capture Card (Optional, for console gaming) I'm not too versed on the subject so I recommend reading this thread. It should help clear up any confusion and get you started: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/which-capture-card-should-i-get-for-streaming-or-recording-and-do-i-need-one.10/ Internet Connection: The most important factor is Internet Speed! You need to have an AMAZING upload speed to stream at a higher resolution or higher framerate. Don't fret, you can still stream with 1~2Mbps! Twitch has this great exert: So basically if you have no internet connection issues and no hardware limitations, 1080p or 3300~ kbitrate is the way to go. Now on the other hand you need a much lower bitrate depending on your internet connection as well. Twitch's recommended 80% of your upload rate is close enough to that range. Software Now that we have the necessary hardware. How do stream? Xsplit: Commercial product that has been around for a while. It's around $25/3 months to get the essentials to stream. However, you are also paying for a good community and company to help troubleshoot any problems and continual support is guaranteed Open Broadcaster Software: Free, open-source, backed by a stellar community. Just as there is no cost, there is no guarantee of help. However, if you are savvy and motivated enough, nothing is impossible. FFsplit: Rarely used anymore. Still a possible option but won't include much about it. Wouldn't recommend. Streaming Sites Twitch.tv The biggest streaming site for gaming related streams around. Used by the biggest names and has the least amount of problems in terms of getting your stream up and staying up. Note you need to be "partnered" with twitch to get a lot of the nice stuff and is by no means easy to get (http://www.twitch.tv/p/partners). Even better you can eventually get a subscriber Hitbox.tv New alternative. It's the biggest alternative for gaming streams out there right now due to some sly "promoting" by forcing tournament organizers to use it. It's by no means bad, however. How does this pertain to SG? With the recent news that some players will be able to use the ~official~ steamgamers twitch, we should attempt to help people set up a stream if they have the personality/skill to stream. If you by chance want to stream, please use this thread, ask questions, and let's get the ball rolling! More stuff will be worked on soon, just getting the groundwork laid out. Any typos? Anything to add? PM Me!
  23. The build itself may seem like a good idea in the short term (cheap, runs everything fine) but there's zero ability to improve. you're only at 2 ram slots, 4 sata connectors, NO sata 6Gb/s connectors (only up to 3Gb/s, only 1 pci-e slot (so no ability to xfire/sli in the future) You should consider researching on how compatibility among computers works (which socket is for which cpu? is this motherboard compatible with this ram? etc) and also how gpus/cpus benchmark and which has value/$. This knowledge will help you understand the PC you want to build, and be able to use Newegg's and Amazon's sales to create a hyper cost efficient PC over time. You said you won't be building it any time soon but I would consider watching deals for things like Hard Drives, Monitors, etc and buying them when you see INSANE deals (SEE: BLACK FRIDAY). Buy the GPU/CPU last for sure (GPUs get cheap QUICK). Lists like that are generally good, especially since that one was last compiled Nov3, but PC parts change. Stuff gets cheaper, stuff gets more expensive, and so forth. Watching and scouting newegg deals, specifically shellshockers, will save you hundreds on top of the line hardware that will create a very strong PC that can last years I would also consider buying a 144hz monitor. That would require you to run your games at 144fps to see the full effects, but my gosh is it worth it. The smoothness of the game provides a much more enriching feeling and is second to one (the gpu) in providing the best aesthetically pleasing experience in video games. Don't use a TV Monitor please My only other closing though is consider a cord mouse/keyboard. Input lag is a huge problem in gaming even in wired peripherals but the goal is to reduce that as much as possible (That's why a 144hz monitor is also better!). Summary: Research PC Parts and how they work Buy GOOD PC parts when on SALE (I prefer Intel/NVIDIA) Consider Corded Peripherals (Logitech is my favorite) Consider a 144Hz Monitor (BenQ XL series, etc)
