  1. Without a doubt my favorite scene of all time is the jail cell scene in Clerks 2. The older I get the more it hits. It's really too long of a scene if you have no investment in Clerks/Kevin Smith movies, but if you watched Clerks 2 you'll probably enjoy a rewatch of this. edit: also Clerks 3 comes out very soon, so watch both of them before 3 drops!
  2. Back when I was 16 I wanted to do political science to do politic crap, glad that didn't work out lol, too broke/dumb for law school. Ended up working on a network security & admin degree, then switched to Comp Sci wanting to program, then didn't want to do that, then went back to Netsec. Right now just doin some IT stuff, digging deeper into networking. I won't say it's my "goal" but I've always heard the joke about this guy who got his Cisco CCIE (very difficult certificate that takes around a year of pure study, in addition to all of the stuff you need to do before (ccna, ccnp)), and he was a "design" guy more at that point in his career. All he did was sit on a boat with his laptop and fish. He'd get e-mails once and a while to view over implementation topologies and gave his input. Sounds like a good job.
  3. Rules

Side note: I agree with Slim Jim, but we also don't know what has already been said privately to them prior to any bans being handed. I don't know the situation that arose the other day completely, so this is not directed at anyone caught by the rule prior. I'm not here to disparage anything that has unfolded as a result, including the admins or the players. Honestly most places I've been around have a set of obvious rules like don't say X, don't say Y, don't do Z, blah. But many places have a pretty big golden rule, "Don't be a dick" It's an incredibly vague rule that has a lot of discretion, but at the end of the day an internet community is a bit like a wild west town. You're not really bound by true law, you're just run out of the town when you're annoying enough. At least back in my day, and it seems true today, is you get a LOT of discretion on how you were handled by admins when you broke a rule. But at the end of the day, annoy enough people and lose enough backing of enough people and you are going to get scorched. Back in the day everyone RDMed/prop dmed someone as a joke, even admins. As long as you weren't just annihilating the fun, it wasn't a huge deal. So basically the reality is once enough people were annoyed with you, they looked for pretty much any basic reason to get you out. The 3 strike rule was not always enforced and many perms (including my older one, before my final one) had been overruled as too harsh, blah blah blah. I think this new rule just settles this entire dilemma. Instead of waiting for you to fuck up and break an obvious rule, how about just skip to the part where they ban you. I'm not really against it. Speaking as a prior piece of shit, it took a nice long perm to get me to chill the hell out, and it was really a long time coming far before I was actually permed. There needs to be rationale behind banning someone, but at the end of the day I think the rigid guidelines of the rules set forth allowed little deviance, even when there's a need to create exceptions. This might be too meta but- communities are built on social interactions. What's the point in housing people who continue to alienate, frustrate, bully, and irritate the rest of the community? I'm not speaking directly about the instance that happened the other day because I don't know the full scope of it, but just my 2 cents.
  4. congrats @kabLe, you are a solidly passionate dude from the experiences we've had, even in disagreements we've had I appreciate your ability to maintain composure and decency
  5. I've already said before on here that I really don't agree with this argument. Also aren't you the one failing to accurately measure success? It seems like you're the one dead set on measuring the success of SG by the success of their CSGO servers but there seems to be quite a bit of fun being had in the discord. I see a lot of people join voice chat every day playing random games. If anything I think SG's gameserver posture just doesn't match SG's population. Plenty of SG admins and players are playing video games, it's just not CSGO man.
  6. does it really negatively affect anyone if they have a green name on the forums
  7. Am I shadow banned, why are pyro and kit ignoring me
  8. For undergrad dependents the FAFSA can only dole out $31k in Direct loans though. What 'house' can I buy at $31k lol? Many people push college because the statistics don't lie that getting a career from a college degree typically accelerates pay, benefits, and working conditions. Personally even at $10k/yr I would still recommend many who show promise to go to school in STEM. I mean let's call it what it really is- a chess move. Most people in America can evaluate the cost of college and see the inflated costs don't accurately scale from where they started. But a one time forgiveness is the limit of Joe's power. Congress needs to act in order to make any real change, but with a gridlocked senate due to the filibuster, there will be no change. All this one time forgiveness does is amp up incoming college students to pressure their elected officials into making valuable change in the system. Republicans for decades have been fine with the status quo, but now there is going to be significant pressure for people coming into college to ask themselves why in 2022, a group of individuals got a helping hand, but they won't? The democrats made a pretty aggressive play, this could mean an even bigger jump in young democrat voters in 3-5 years if nothing changes. All democrats have to do is point the fingers at the GOP and say "look, we want to do more, but see how the GOP is blocking us?"
  9. So did Trump have top secret nuclear documents in his "home" in mar-a-lago? Did other presidents have nuclear documents? The capitol was breached, the Senate & Pence were being evacuated, at around 2:16pm there was a serious concern that Pence may be stuck there, which highly endangers his life. And at 2:24pm Trump tweets this: "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!" His Vice President. His Running mate. The person he hand chose to succeed him in his death to run the country. This is the second most important man in the country. This is the man Trump should trust the utmost in the entire world, because it's up to him to finish out his term in the event he can no longer do so. And when Pence's life is in real, legitimate danger. What does Trump do? He says he lacks courage, and that the US deserves the truth. Is Trump completely culpable for all of January 6th? Of course not. But to say that Trump acted in the best interest of his own Vice President, the Congress, and the American people, is so depraved, and so utterly mystifying, I don't understand how there's a single person in this country who still stands up for Trump. The point I'm making is Trump, throughout the entire events of Jan 6, basically egged on an amped up crowd HE SENT TO THE CAPITOL FROM HIS RALLY. If you can't put your Trump fanboyism aside and realize how much Trump fucked up here, then you are lost. Is there a single heroic thing Trump did on Jan 6? Do you really believe he was doing the right thing by sending the tweets he did? I really don't get how you can defend him, I don't. But let me guess, something something Joe Biden/Hillary Clinton/Obama/Hunter Biden did something something, right?
  10. The problem is many universities really have nothing to do with education whatsoever. A lot of the FAFSA aid given out doesn't go towards classes either. Most state schools require outbound HS graduates to live on campus/forced meal plans for 1-2 years. This isn't always the case, but it happens in the majority of cases. So this drives up the cost of school because universities are setting the prices for the housing/meal plans, and the government is footing that bill. The concept of putting someone's rent on credit is the most atrocious design I've ever seen, and that should've been prevented the day it started. Additionally, the intermingling of sports programs and universities is beyond suspect for a drive up of costs. Universities need to be barred from spending federal/state aid money on administrative positions that are for sports programs. None of the aid money can go towards a dime of sports programs. No more party schools. No more sports full rides and wasted money on sports buildings. You can still have these things if you're a private school and receive no federal/state funding, including grants for research, but if you receive a single dime from the government, you are there to educate students. Not let them go out and concuss each other.
  11. $20k for people who were issued pells $10k for people who weren't Federal loans only, some other specifics apply. Income Based Repayment plan changes, 5% discretionary income/month. Guessing this will be challenged in court immediately by those from FL/TX/KY within seconds of being signed to hold it up. No long term fix for incoming students, but then again, sleepy Joe can't as much there. Congress should act on that piece. Quote from some article: We estimate that President Biden’s proposed student loan debt cancellation alone will cost between $469 billion to $519 billion over the 10-year budget window, depending on whether existing and new students are included. About 75% of the benefit falls to households making $88,000 or less per year.
  12. How can you say they had no valid reason when the only documentation that's been released has been heavily redacted? Also nobody brought up that Trump caused Jan6, but thanks for clarifying?
  13. Is this a typo or something? The latter half of this paragraph infers that a discord is better than the forums. Regardless, IMO, discord is part of the short term future of gaming. It's one of the best ways to collaborate, game, and socialize. I think SG's #1 priority should be making a great feeling community in discord. The discord is already active and has lively discussion, voice channel participation (with flavor of the month type gaming), streaming in discord, etc. I would argue Discord is SG's #1 most active platform. Why, for the life of me, people are ignoring it, is weird. Agree CSGO is not suitable for gaming communities. The server browser is outdated, obtuse, and not appealing. Flavor of the month gaming is there. When games like Valheim pop up, SG should just spin up a server for them and run with them. Didn't someone just do a Minecraft server that was lively for a little bit? Here's what I'll say about this whole "dying" "motivation" "burn out" etc things (and this plays into Dominic's paragraph about plans and futures and blah blah). General talk: What is your reason for being on SG? Like why specifically SG? Is it because they had a ze or jb or ttt server? There are plenty of those servers on the server list, so why specifically is SG the best? I would say that most people stay here for a pretty simple reason: they like the people/culture here. An example: Since COVID hit I got back into cs1.6, most people here probably haven't even played it. Right now it only has 5000 people. Most people would call that a dead game... But I certainly never have a problem getting on certain communities, even right now at 1AM as I'm posting. I can pug 5v5 socal servers till probably 4am if I wanted to. Is CS1.6 growing? Not really. So why do I participate? Because it's enjoyable. Growth isn't always sustainable, and I want everyone reading this to understand that sometimes you don't need to have growth ALL the time. I'm not saying SG shouldn't try to grow. But at the end of the day nobody is being paid here. You come here because you like it, and if you no longer like it, you'll probably leave. Growing a gaming community has never been about getting new players, it's about retaining good players. Why have a community if it's just a bunch of random RDMers, trolls, mic spammers who join and grief? The whole point of a community is to come here, play with your friends, and mesh and socialize. Literally I was permed like 6 years ago and now that I'm back I know basically nobody, but I can see there is still very much the SG culture (in some good and some bad ways...) and I think I've made friends with new people to some degree and had a fun time on here and discord. So ultimately what I'm trying to drive home is- just because SG is not growing doesn't mean you can't have fun. Just participate in the community when possible and talk and meet people. Real tangible things: Right now there's a slump where I do agree CSGO is not working, and I don't think it really will long-term. I think within the next year s&box will be big for SG (I'm in the "alpha" right now and it's quite good in terms of gamemodes/mods, though I think server browser integration has something to be desired). I'm stealing an idea from some very OG SG members who tried this a very long time ago but I think it might be time to consider allowing more freedom on the SG brand. I'm not saying drop the dedi's necessarily but I would allow more higher up staff to host their own server and use discord/forums to broadcast it. The minecraft server was a good example of this. I mentioned Valheim before but this would be another example. Hosting servers in 2022 is really easy and all I would recommend the SG TA team do is verification that it is secure. I think servers that need to tap into the SB list or other ban lists could be a problematic portion of this discussion but it can be worked about I think it would be a good idea to reduce the toxicity a little bit here. It's 2022 and there's still some social progression to be made. Stuff like "that's gay" "shut up retard" etc have no place for social interaction. When I was a kid on here I was doing this and it is really not healthy for any party to call or be called offensive terms. It took me a couple years to learn how to properly fix the way I interacted with people because of the abusive behaviors I exercised and was victim of here. I've talked with a couple other people who used to be ex-SG and they've voiced similar concerns that after leaving SG their mental health was improved. I'm not saying you can't sarcastically rib people, but it needs to be toned down from what I've seen in the discord. I'm also not saying you need to go out and perm people for this but it's just something to be aware of and be better on.
  14. Get in the tank bro, we're overthrowing the government (again) (for the third time this week)
  15. who is "us?"
  16. As you no doubt have seen, the FBI raided Mar-a-lago. There are still only rumors at this point as to what they were attempting to find as the warrant and affidavit are still sealed. Only time will tell but we may know within the next two weeks. This thread can serve as a discussion point for how we continue to have to deal with one of the most incompetent and/or malicious presidents of all time. I hope they skip over this portion of the US in history books so we can at least save some face.
  17. Late but, I think it's definitely possible it was a mercy killing but it doesn't change the responsibility Brian had to not do it. He really didn't seem to be knowledgeable enough to make those decisions and the fact that he was able to get back to society means it was a big mistake regardless, she could've lived. What he did next after getting back into society was the most criminal behavior possible. Sure there's innocent till proven guilty blah blah but the dude actively tried to hide what happened. Given the decomposing of her body it's tough to say what actually transpired and it's unfortunate we'll never actually know what happened, but I can believe he does regret it and she meant a lot to him. This shit is why I ain't goin campin, all rationale gets thrown out the window. The whole "omg why follow the white woman people go missing all the time" stuff is bunk, the case was interesting for a ton of reasons, and even the conclusion was WTF. I'm sure there's going to be some big name documentary about this in 10 years. Also the parents are so fucked in civil court.
  18. Hang out in discord, it is always entertaining to catch a BoM clap on someone
  19. I've seen this "NA dead" argument but honestly I think it's completely wrong. Player hosted game servers are dead (in GO) I remember back in CSS when SG was popping legit there were >15k servers on the master server list. You relied heavily on a community and shit. If you plug https://www.gametracker.com/search/css/ into archive.org you will see stuff like this: https://web.archive.org/web/20100301232758/https://www.gametracker.com/search/css/ 12k servers on Mar1 2010. --- CS:S had 43k concurrent players on Jan 2013 Game tracker archive on Jan 2013 showed 8.1k servers (https://web.archive.org/web/20130117080405/https://www.gametracker.com/search/css/) 814 pages x 10 per page = 8.1k Today CSGO peaked at 877k https://www.gametracker.com/search/csgo/?&searchipp=25#search 3.8k servers There are 19x more players playing CS, yet 2x LESS servers. Matchmaking is how people play, not playerservers. The certain community you mentioned has historically always been more popular than SG. But the reality is that a lot of the community servers have contracted a ton in the last decade due to MM on various games. There were hundreds of jb_ servers back in Source, but now I see what, 20 tops?
  20. I have a pill for that So if in 5-500 years there are biomarkers that could indicate bpd, depression, anxiety, etc, are you saying these are no longer mental disorders but brain diseases? Have you considered the possibility that our technologies just aren't advanced enough to detect the full scope of what a mental disorder is?
  21. I see some stuff on upcoming games on my google news feed but aside from that I don't look up much either. I like to just hang out in some discords and let people talk about shit. The way I discovered valheim was other discords popping off about it. With how many games get released per day I think it's good to be reactionary and just wait and hear what is poppin
  22. Switch: Live a Live - demo seemed "ok" so I might try the full version, doubt I'll finish it tho lol PC: Sea of Stars - unfortunately pushed back to 2023. Chrono Trigger is one of my top 5's so I hope this will be decent. Most games that say they're CT-inspired end up being really bad Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 - development hell so maybe never come out, but VTMB1 was one of the best games I played STALKER 2 - never was a HUGE fan but I loved the ones I did play
