  1. HELP!

Sorry but you have it semi-backwards regionals. Assuming the mapper is competent what happens is the engine renders only what is visible or in the immediate vicinity. Including players. On a massive wide open escape map you're taking in easily twice to ten times as much crap on a full 40 man server. The variance comes from the map's construction, how well the mapper optimized tihngs, and what all is going on. I've got a core 216 and q9450 and I only get ~40fps at times on escape1.
  2. USB devices are just plain weird, this is why i always strongly recommend sticking to stuff that goes through your soundcard. Honestly I don't have a clue how you would do this without a LOT of software processing and hooking into CSS in a way that pisses off VAC but if you find out please share because I'd like to do that too.
  3. New monitor

In case you didn't already know (most dont) LCD's aren't all the same, there's some SERIOUS differences between even the same monitors but different tech. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1039222 ^^^ That's a rundown of the different panel types. I'm more of a CRT man myself but having seen the MVA and IPS panels, they are absolutely WORLDS better than TN panels. If you can find something with one of the better panel types rather than just a bigger one. Also there are no standards for testing dynamic contrast or response time so just ignore those numbers, theres NO regulation on that. They could claim a 2ms response time and 100000000000:1 contrast ratio without telling you that they got that number by cherry picking it out of a billion wierd-ass testing conditions. Static contrast is a good one to look for though. Ideally something like a 1920x1200 S-IPS panel with a polarizer would be great.
  4. I like how all the people who utterly failed at reading the original post also absolutely fail at knowing anything about zombiemod. Unless someone's gone and fixed it (which I was told required recoding ZM) that mute menu likely still doesn't work, only admin mutings do.
  5. I haven't played since the noblock crowd subverted the whole system and basically took over. Plus my gaming monitor died which puts me back at 1024x768.

Other'n that Real Life seems to be behaving somewhat.

  6. There are three things that will let you get away with non-music soundbytes rather than instantly provoke the wrath of the admins: 1. Brevity. If your clip is longer than "Get to the choppah!" chances are it's too long and will get annoying fast. 2. Quality. The number one mic problem in general is that when something's too loud (or your mic is too close to your mouth) or it's a shitty wav file it turns into a nasty static filled mess nobody can understand. This is also quality != quantity. Unexpected (due to rarity) soundbytes will likely be received better than constant ones, shit gets old FAST. 3. Lulz. Self explanatory.
  7. New keyboard?

Wireless is the spawn of darkest evil, especially for gaming. That being said what keyboard to suggest is very dependant on what you want from a keyboard. If you want a billion programmable macros of regular keyboard functions logitech's gaming keyboards are for you, if you want a billion extra function keys that are more advanced than macros then a media keyboard would be better but non-programmable for the most part, if you're going to be using it for lots and lots of work/schoolwork and typing then a mechanical keyboard would trump the other two needs in terms of keeping your wrists healthy.
  8. ever install a game with starforce?
  9. HELP! I parked my car with the front facing another car instead of an empty spot, how can I get it out again?! Shit is expensive, I need another opinion!
  10. If you do it right you should be able to, just be VERY careful you don't work any bubbles into the paste. Ofc it might be simpler to just reverse the fan depending on which one you got...
  11. If they haven't shipped yet i think you can cancel without penalty.
  12. XP64 does that too. The problem is vista's pretty inconsistent while XP just plain works. Plus to a lot of people who've been using computers in an advanced capacity for a long time vista suddenly going batshit with a whole lot of things is just too annoying to work with. What takes make 1-2min tops in XP and is all in the same options menu is spread all over the freakin place in vista and needs me to constantly load up different menus and windows.
  13. SVC will have the same stuff and be cheaper than newegg and are basically as good as newegg to buy from. http://www.svc.com/u120e-rt-am2.html http://www.svc.com/u120e-bp-rev-c.html http://www.svc.com/hr-01plus.html http://www.svc.com/nh-u12pse.html
  14. Aren't .psd files generally enormous compared to even .png?
  15. it's not just the case, tuniq's are huge in EVERY way. They're wide, they have massive baseplates, they have a large and obtuse mounting system, the heatpipes sit wide... unless your motherboard has LOTS of clearance around the CPU slot in all directions it's better to stick with the Noctua or TRUE.
  16. Actually 4 and 3 pin fans are both compatible with each other, that's why they've got those little rails on the plug that line up with the piece on the mobo. Also the tuniq towers are ENORMOUS and their mounting hardware is subpar. Stick with the Noctua or TRUE.
  17. It might be, Yate Loons (good, quiet) and Noctua's (shit-poor airflow, utterly freakin silent) are. Thing I don't get is if you're already spending $55 freakin dollars you may as well go for name-brand heatsinks in the same +-$10 price range that are known to be basically freakin awesome: http://www.svc.com/u120e-rt-am2.html http://www.svc.com/u120e-bp-rev-c.html http://www.svc.com/nh-u12pse.html (equal to the TRUE, but comes with 2 dead silent noctuas)
  18. You don't want to get into the amp thing until you've got a true understanding of both how the electrical and sound crap behind it works. That's getting into the Deep Magic.
  19. Sennheiser and Audio Technica are basically equivalent, the steelseries... I already explained why they are bad for three reasons: They hide their THD ratings, why "surround" headphones are for simple physical reasons a gimmick, and they rely on a reputation of being "gaming" headphones and whatnot rather than their technological superiority. As for the difference between the AD700 and the Pro700, there's a few differences. It's not that one is "better" than the other such that they're for different purposes. The AD700 is an Open headphone, people around you will hear when your headphones make noise and they sound slightly different but are much more comfortable to wear for a long period of time as they don't try to isolate your ear. You'll hear things going on around you (if a bit muffled, obviously) and people will hear some things your headphones produce, they also will be less tilted towards bass. The Pro700 is a closed headphone designed to isolate you from the world around you, sound doesn't get in or out from them and they're much more bassy and much less comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The Pro700's are more what you'd wear as a DJ or something (hence monitor headphones) when you sometimes want to flip it around and listen with one ear, or isolate yourself from the party noise and so on. The AD700's are more popular for gamers since they don't get uncomfortable when wearing for long periods of time like closed headphones do. Closed headphones, if you've never worn them, are basically like wearing plastic cups over your ears in terms of comfort. Very good for professional work where you want to be alone with your noises but for all-day wear can be fatiguing. For your last question, just think about the nature of headphones. A computer sends a digital signal to your soundcard that is processed converted to analog and then played in your headphones. I've never known a decent quality set of USB headphones and I don't know if they even work with soundcards. Since headphones rely on sending audio signals that your brain interprets as being from 3d locations rather than actually being spaced around a room that's pretty important, that's why for gamers the x-fi->headphones thing is such a big deal.
  20. Everything else would also trash my crappy processor Firstly that's about 80% positive reviews to about 20% negative reviews so just by the reviews it's the best thing since sliced bread. However if you go by actual knowledge of which brands are quality and which aren't you're right it is basically something you'd buy JUST for something to plug a cord into.
  21. ^^^ Did you think the rest of us were lying? Any headset that's branded for "surround" or "gaming" is like buying something from the As Seen On TV section of bed bath and beyond.
  22. Soundcard is optional, only necessary if you're going to do headphones (CMSS3d) or you really like EAX/etc. I do recommend them usually if you can fit it in and get the bottom-tier true hardware soundcard (careful, some x-fi's are cheapass software emulators) since it reallly does make a diff in a lot of newer games but it's still basically a bottom tier part. Anyway the list is (in order of importance/priority and how much to spend on it): PSU Mobo CPU GPU HDD Case Heatsink/fan RAM Soundcard (SPU? that just sounds retarded.) Optical drives Bling/addons And please, for the love of game, when all of us nerds are screaming to go to Jonnyguru and check their PSU reviews or just get one of the brands we tell you to, don't think we're messing with you. It really is that important.
  23. http://www.steam-gamers.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58 ??
  24. Seriously, this is getting crazy. A year ago probably 1/2 to 2/3rds of the current admins would've been outright banned already along with everyone that seems to constantly be on this "anti-furfag" binge.

  25. I think it's time for potshot to retire then, because I'm seeing more and more admins get this bullshit nobility about how what they did was justified in some way while at the same time getting pissed off about being requested to actually do their job ("it's not a job, we're not REQUIRED to do anything").
