Jail Break Revamp Feedback and Suggestions
Goku posted a topic in Jailbreak -- jb.steam-gamers.net
As seen in this thread, the rules have recently changed. You can view all the main details in that thread, but if you wish to provide feedback on how you think the changes are going so far as well as provide some suggestions on what you think would help based on your experience after these changes, please do so in this thread. I ask that you guys keep an open mind about these changes, and give them ample time for the server to adapt before being too critical of the changes. And keep in mind again, that just because these changes have enabled CTs to force deathgames, that doesn't mean CTs have to. CTs can still order freedays, or order all Ts to go to soccer. Ideally, CTs will have a nice variety and balance of playing deathgames, as well as having disco or soccer days. -
NEW RULES-DEATHGAMES AND LRS
Goku posted a topic in Jailbreak -- jb.steam-gamers.net
Alrighty boys and girls, as mentioned in this thread there are some new rules being put in place. As of the posting of this thread, those rules are now in place. Just to clear again on what exactly is now in place, I'll break each one down and explain to the best of my ability. I will also update any relevant threads and plugins to reflect these rules. No special orders or T orders: First off is special orders: What this means is that orders such as "All ts go to pool, Dominic you can be my pet today." Are no longer allowed. The same goes for orders like "All ts go to pool, Dominic you have a freeday/soccer day/disco day.". These orders only cause chaos and end in accidental freekills and overall do nothing but tarnish the quality of the game. To clarify, this does not mean that you can't send a T to medic to heal or if the order is for them to be in big cage, that you can't have one T step out. This rule change specifically refers to special treatment orders such as "pets" or special freedays for one person. In regards to sending one T to ISO, my stance is still the same about this one. If there is one T constantly causing issues with rebelling, and you want to send him to ISO one round or for a short time period, then by all means go ahead. But the "no repeating" and/or "reasonable" orders rule still applies. Meaning you can't send one person to ISO over and over and over and over again. ISO is there to help you control the Ts, but it can not be used excessively. In regards to T orders: Before CTs could tell a T to not give T orders, and admins could mute a T if they got out of hand with it. The only thing that this rule does now is put it in writing that CTs can tell Ts to stop giving orders and can warning shot them. It also gives admins something to easily point to. CT Bullet Markers: @Liam Brown hooked us up and now whenever a CT types !marker into chat (or binds a key to sm_marker) a white circle with an arrow above it will appear wherever the CT is aiming. There can only be a maximum of 2 markers at one time, and a marker will last for 30 seconds. Forced Deathgames: CTs can now force the Ts to participate in deathgames. This is a big rule change as until now we have never allowed forced deathgames. The primary purpose of this change is to speed up the rounds and avoid the usual "go here, and spend 4 minutes doing nothing". As a friendly reminder, just because you CAN force deathgames, doesn't meant you HAVE to. The rules about forced deathgames are as follows: CTs CAN NOT force the same death game. The "no repeating orders" rule still applies. CTs can only force deathgames with 2:30 or less left in the round. CTs can only force map-made deathgames. Map-made deathgames are defined as games that are built into the map, and harm/kill the T on its own (such as jump rope or death cube). First Reaction, Last Reaction and Simon Says are the only exceptions to this rule. Those CAN still be forced. Forced Last Request: CTs can now force Ts to choose a LR in order to speed up the round and overall better the experience for everyone else. CTs CAN NOT force LRs until there are 2 Ts left alive.. CTs also need to give Ts an ample amount of time to pick their LR. Ts are still allowed to choose their own LR and all previous LR rules still apply. If a T absolutetly refuses to choose an LR, CTs are now allowed to kill them for not following orders. Slot Increase: Of all changes, this one is the one most likely to potentially be reversed sooner rather than later. I will still give it ample time before making any decision to undo, but for now the amount of JB slots has been increased from 24 to 28. This change does not have any affect on subscriber or admin's ability to join a full server with their slot reservation. While there isn't a required ratio when the server is full, try to aim for around 10 CTs to 18 Ts. If 9 CTs and 19 Ts is working better, then stick with that. Admins, just use your best judgement as you previously would. I request that everyone gives these changes a little bit of a time before making any strong opinions on how they've affected the server. There is a second thread here where you can post your feedback and suggestions on how to improve these changes. I truly hope these changes overall increases the enjoyment of the server for everyone and that we can work together to mold these rules where needed to create the best environment possible. -
Job Application
topic replied to Goku's FunkyFingers in Off Topic
Height won't matter. Show up in a nice pair of jeans, polo shirt would be fine as well. Just walk up to the counter and politely ask to speak to the manager. If you know the manager's name, politely ask to speak to . Idk how things are in Jersey, but if its considered polite and normal to say Mr or Ms, then ask to speak to Mr/Ms . When they walk up, shake their hand, introduce yourself and say something about you are there for the job interview. They'll prob lead you to somewhere to sit and talk. Just be relaxed and polite when talking to them. Your body language will speak more for your appearance than anything. Just dress business casual like I said, and try to make note of your posture. Also if you already have facial hair, be sure to either just shave it all off, or trim it to where it looks nice. Same goes with your hair. Just make sure its well kept and brushed or styled in a presentable manner. Really, just don't overthink it. -

Changes coming to Jail Break
topic replied to Goku's Goku in Jailbreak -- jb.steam-gamers.net
No plans to lower the start of round mute time. Lowering the mute time won't encourage CTs to give orders quicker. As it currently stands, CTs will usually finish whatever conversation they were already having when the round ended, or they'll make some remarks to something said previously or that happened the round before. With the start of round mute at 30 seconds, we already had CTs not getting around to giving orders until that 30 second mark was almost there and often I'd see CTs just end up ordering "all ts off mic" right after the 30 second mute. An additional 15 seconds is more than enough for them to get the orders off, but isn't too terribly long to wait as a T. -

JB Server Revamp Proposal 1.2 Removal of special orders (meaning no more "All Ts go to pool, Dominic go to soccer" or "All Ts go to pool, Dominic you can be my pet"). Removal of T orders. CTs may issue a warning shot to a T for trying to issue an order, and admins may also warn and mute any T that continually does it. Increase T start of round mute time to 45 seconds (Already in effect) Introduction of CT bullet markers. Introduction of forced LRs. CTs can not begin forcing LRs until there are only 4 Ts remaining. Ts are still allowed to choose their own LR, but if a T absolutely refuses to choose one, he may be killed. All previous LR rules are still in place, meaning a T can not ask for have a freeday till the round expires. Introduction of forced deathgames. CTs can not force the same deathgame round after round, and can not force Ts to play a deathgame in which a CT has 100% freedom to decide who lives and dies (such as "whats for dinner"). Deathgames such as First Reaction, Last Reaction or Simon Says are allowed to be forced, though the possibility of restricting these games is entirely possible and is pending feedback from how the server handles this new rule. A future rule addition stating that CTs may only force map-made deathgames, is entirely possible and will be considered after some testing.. Temporary introduction of 4 player slots. Set the new ideal ratio from 9/15, to 10/18. Really the only change here from 1.1 to 1.2 is setting some restrictions ahead of time. Notably setting that CTs can not force LRs till 4 ts are left, although it very well could be changed to 3 if 4 proves to be too much of an issue. The other restriction set is specifically stating that CTs can not do the same deathgames, and that they can't forced shit like whats for dinner. I will say that depending how things go, it is very very likely that I add some restriction stating that CTs can only force map-made deathgames, meaning games like jump rope, colors, some climbs etc. Main thing here is I can see some CT trying to force an 18 man simon says or first reaction last reaction. And to give @All Ts credit, thinking to myself now and realizing that there is a chance of 18 Ts, it might be possible that it is set that you can only force deathgames with say 10 Ts left. Again, this is pending how these rules playout in the first place. Some deathgames might work just fine with 18 Ts, but shit like simon says is just begging for trouble. I'm working 10-6 EST Sunday, so changes will likely be made when I get home. I'm off Monday so I'll try to be on as much as possible, and working 7-3 EST Tuesday and Wednesday so will also try to be on then to oversee these changes. -

Changes coming to Jail Break
topic replied to Goku's Goku in Jailbreak -- jb.steam-gamers.net
And again, any change to anything ever is going to take a period to react. If we had some form of beta server to test these changes on, I'd do it there. We don't, which means the only way to truly know how any of these changes plays out, is to give it time to show the problems and then we react to that. From what I've seen so far there's mixed reviews to the proposed changes. It's entirely possible we don't see many forced deathgames at first due to it not being in the blood of our regs. It's also completely possible we see a lot, or even just a little. We don't know till we let them naturally form. PB doing well is the exact impression I was under, so while people may have proposed these changes thinking PB was dying, just know my approach to it was under the mindset that it isn't. I feel like as the exact rules around forced deathgames are formed, which can only be done after seeing how it all plays out, we will be able to continue that same success while still pulling in both old and new players with these changes. As it currently stands, PB is usually a broken record with very little actually happening. These changes still allow that broken record to happen, but opens up more possibilities for some new records to get their fair share of air time. Just want to point out that just because something can happen, doesn't mean it will. So just because these changes will allow forced LRs and deathgames, doesn't mean that every CT will suddenly start doing it. Bottom line is, as PB currently stands there's not much room for growth. I believe that this change in the long run will do more good than bad. Is it entirely possible the first week is a bit rough until the kinks are worked out? Of course it is. But I do plan on trying to be there as much as I can first hand to help with that transition. And as I've said already, the only way to work out these kinks is to let the problems form first. I could start off restricting the shit out of these new rules, but I believe it's more beneficial to give more freedom to the mode and make adjustments as we go. And if it's any help, do know that these changes can be reversed if it proves to do more harm than good. But we need to give them the chance to blossom for cutting the roots. -

If you know anyone that plays JB regularly but doesn't browse the forums (@bubblez ), encourage them to come post their thoughts on this. I'll add an advertisement to the server tonight so more players will hopefully see it. Added an advertisement. I'll also update OP later clarifying a few things I've answered in this thread. I'm likely going to aim to have the updates, or most of them at least, implemented sometime Sunday. That'll give me the best opportunity to be available the first few days to help with any confusion. -

Point being that with any big change to anything ever, there's a rough transitional period. The server could take this change in stride, or have some hiccups that require some adjustments in the rules. Only way to know that, is to let it run its course. This change is being made in hopes of bettering the server as a whole, and if it takes a rough first week to get some things worked out, then so be it. -

Nah. To me there's a big difference in "Hey, go play colors" or "Hey, go skip that rope" and "Hey, if i see you I'm gonna shoot you." And even if the war day were to be say only in soccer, you still don't guarantee that every T will try to kill the CTs. Which the main reason behind this update in the rules is to speed rounds up. -

Again, I'm fully expecting the initial few days, hell maybe even entire first week, to be an overflow of deathgames. But again, I also fully expect things to work themselves out. I'm expecting to see map-made deathgames used a lot more than CT-manned ones like Simon Says. I'm going to say give this change a little over a week, and we can assess how things are playing out. Keep in mind too that the "no repeating orders" rule would mean you can't keep doing simon says every day. Plus CTs are lazy, they'll eventually get tired of trying to control that big ass game But yes, when I go to make the official rule change, I'll include some fancy wording to avoid shit like what's for dinner. We are avoiding the time limit because by the time the round hits 2 minutes, it'll take that long to get the deathgame setup and will likely end before the DG finishes. I'm also avoiding the "5-6 prisoners" left setup because the entire point of this change is to speed up the rounds and avoid those "stand here for 4 minutes" rounds. Which you mention it would encourage Ts to rebel so they don't get lined up for a DG, but I can also see it the other way. Some might not rebel because if they don't rebel, they don't die. If they don't die, then CTs can't force the deathgame. Really it boils down to speeding up the rounds and keeping them interesting. The transition will be rough considering we're changing an ancient ruleset, but the end product will be worth it I believe. The main reason for the removal of special orders, is they cause only confusion and headache for everyone involved. Both in regards to the ones meant to punish, and meant to "reward". I established here That you can't send a T to ISO round after round if he wasn't okay with it. I'll tinker with the exact wording. Telling one person to take a few steps out of big cage doesn't fall under my definition of "no special orders". Same with sending one person to medic. I just don't want any more of these "pets" kind of thing happening. Hmmmmph, 600. You're cute -

Pretty much. Honestly haven't look too much into it. Liam said he'd see what he can do, so whatever he comes up with is fine. Only reason I'm adding anything like it is because I couldn't really think of a reason not to. -

Why'd you quote the entire OP... T_T Anyway, shit like FRLR and Simon says is fine since Ts actually have realistic chances to win/survive, or better yet they can actually control their destiny to an extent. With games like what's for dinner, you could say the CTs favorite food ever, but because he wants to he can say fuck you and kill you. Ts have literally no control over their fate. The wording is tricky because games like 4 corners are technically random, but at least it isn't the CT freely deciding who lives and dies. Essentially I just don't want CTs to force Ts to play a game in which the outcome is 100% dependent on if the CT wants to shoot the T or not. -
Changes coming to Jail Break

Special orders are the ones where a CT let's his buddy do his own thing. Telling someone to go to medic is fine. But you can't tell all the Ts to go to pool, then let your friend to fart around in disco. It only causes confusion and leads to accidental freekills. As stated, the allowance of DGs is a big change. But in the end it'll have a more positive than negative impact. Least in theory. Rather than forcing the Ts to stand on big cage boxes for 4 mins, were now actually doing things. Before Ts would stand in one area, one or two might sneak off to rebel, and the CTs get tunnel vision watching the Ts stand on boxes and get killed by the rebels. Now, the Ts will actually be able to do games and make the rounds more interesting. Plus some DGs actually give the Ts a chance to rebel via teleporters or guns. Essentially the main thing is we're going from "stand in one place for 4 mins" to actually playing a game. This change potentially helps combat the issue of CTs being super restrictive to the point that the game mode was killed. Gives the CTs more options on what to do, and allows us to actually use maps to their full potential. -

Changes coming to Jail Break
Goku posted a topic in Jailbreak -- jb.steam-gamers.net
Lets just preface this with NOTHING HAS OFFICIALLY CHANGED YET, EVERYTHING IS STILL THE SAME Now that we have that out of the way, we've been discussing some potential changes to the JB server, and I'd like to bring some of these topics to the public before anything is officially implemented. Keep in mind that these changes will for the most part have a big impact on how the game is played on our server. These changes are mostly finalized, I just want to get some public feedback and suggestions prior to making any of these official. So again, these are not official yet so for the time being continue playing the server like normal. JB Server Revamp Proposal 1.1 Removal of special orders (meaning no more "All Ts go to pool, Dominic go to soccer" or "All Ts go to pool, Dominic you can be my pet") Removal of T orders. CTs may issue a warning shot to a T for trying to issue an order, and admins may also warn and mute any T that continually does it. Increase T start of round mute time to 45 seconds (Already in effect) Introduction of CT bullet markers. Introduction of forced LRs and deathgames. CTs can now force Ts to choose a LR as well as force Ts to participate in deathgames. Temporary introduction of 4 player slots. Set the new ideal ratio from 9/15, to 10/18. Now to kind of break down every bullet point and explain why its happening. 1) Special Orders--- My initial stance on this was that I'm fine with it, as long as it isn't done excessively. However, given the amount of chaos that this causes, I have found it best to remove this completely. And to be clear, if you want to send one or two Ts to ISO that is allowed. Reason for that, is that sending someone to ISO is usually used as means of punishment and ways to handle some troublemaking Ts. That doesn't mean you can just send someone to ISO at the start of the round every time, but I'm not going to flat out tell you "No, you can not send just one person to ISO." This change in the rule is mostly in regards to these CTs that let their friends be their butt buddies and it only causes mayhem. 2) T orders--- Again, my initial stance on this was that I was fine with it, and that CTs could tell Ts not to do it and warning shot for it, and that if they kept doing it an admin could force them to stop. All this rule change is doing now, is officially making it where CTs can warning shot a T for trying to do it, and admins just have the official rule to point to now. 3) Start of round mute--- Already in place. Was done to try to give CTs a little more time to get the round going. 4) CT bullet markers--- This was brought up by Dominic and Liam Brown is going to work on implementing it. Not sure when exactly he'll have it ready, but I told him there's no hurry since it isn't that big of a deal. But essentially when we get this added, it is just going to make it easier for Ts to see where a CT is shooting when he says shit like "go to my bullets". 5) Deathgames and LRs--- Alright, so this is the biggest one here. Up until the time that this rule goes live, we have never allowed CTs to force Ts to partake in deathgames or LRs. This has just been something pretty unique to our server, and honestly wasn't that big of a deal for the longest. However, due to the recent(ish) change in JB maps being made, as well as how our server has been running for the past year almost, we're going to be allowing CTs to force Ts to play deathgames and take a LR. Now, I mention maps being made. In case you haven't noticed, we've added some pretty cool maps featuring these really cool and elaborate deathgames....that never get touched. Like seriously, take Dojo for example. That grey building with the car and chicken games? Never touched. Then there's moonjail that has all these great deathgames, but they aren't played. I think that from now on we're going to keep seeing these great maps with cool games being added, and that combined with the trend on our server is a big factor in why I'm going to be changing our stance on forced deathgames. Its like this, 90% of the rounds on JB now are "One step out, face the back and afk freeze.....crouch walk to big cage be on boxes(or soccer or pool or disco)." 4 minutes pass, and we repeat. By allowing deathgames to be forced, we are now opening up a good 70% of the map that we never touched before. It's going to allow CTs more freedom to actually do things. Now, a concern already voiced is that its going to be CTs doing nothing but deathgames. While I do expect to potentially see a lot of rounds of nothing but deathgames, I think it will naturally level itself out as people adapt, and as we play different maps. For example, on razor I don't see there being as much forced deathgames as say a map like moonjail. And the "no repeating" orders thing will still apply, but only to doing the same deathgame. There's so many maps with various deathgames now that I believe we'll see a nice variety of freeday, soccer days and different deathgames. Now, one thing that I am not going to allow with deathgames and LRs, is forcing Ts to play these bullshit games like what's for dinner. I'm going to tinker with the exact wording, but essentially I am not going to allow Ts to be forced to play games where the CT literally just picks and chooses who lives and dies. If Ts actually want to play those games, then sure. But CTs are not going to be allowed to force Ts to play them. If you have any questions/concerns/suggestions about this, don't hesitate to state them and I'll reply to them best I can. 6) More player slots--- Alongside these changes, I'm also going to experiment with adding 4 more player slots, which would take the server officialy from being 24, to 28. With this, I'd like to state that to me the ideal ratio (meaning if the server is full, this ratio is preferable) is 10 CTs to 18 Ts. At least in theory I would think that to be best, but in practice it might actually be 9-19. We'll just have to wait and see. These player slots are not permanent, and if it turns out to be too big of a hassle, we can go back to 24. If it works, then later we can look into going to 32. But that's down the line. And again, NONE OF THESE CHANGES ARE OFFICIAL YET. When they are official, I'll make that very clear. For now, I just want to get public feedback and suggestions. So, feel free to make your opinion on these potential changes heard, I'm all ears. -
All I'm going to say, is that forced deathgames has been brought up, and is one of the things we're discussing currently. Everyone will hear more about it soon.
-
Think we need an expert opinion. Anyone here a Browns fan?
