  1. I wasn't saying there was something wrong with your computer, I was talking about your suggestion. Why would you suggest the E6750 over the over the E8400? The price difference is minimal, and with the kind of money he wants to spend not a big deal. An E8400 or a Q6600 will make a great chip for his PC. The reason I don't want to suggest dumping extra money on a motherboard is because, there is going to be a socket change at the end of the year. Any motherboard available right now will be obsolete. The one I suggested is more than enough to run any CPU out currently out on the market, and it's a good overclocker. Case is personal preference so he can pick what he wants, and my video card suggestion is enough to run Crysis on high. If he wants to spend $100 more a 9800GTX would be 1337. I didn't suggest a sound card because the AC-1 is currently overpriced, it's been as low as $60 and Creative is currently being boycotted by the mod community.
  2. Overclock

Decided to OC to 2.8GHz and after a couple rounds of CS:S and a few more in C&C3 my temps are still normal. I think I'm going to keep it this way Check out the sweet 22 degrees Celsius. It's almost room temperature.
  3. New cheap compy

The motherboards FSB rating is 1066/800MHz the CPU's FSB is 1333MHz. It won't work.
  4. There's a lot wrong with IanH's build. The CPU is slightly outdated, the Wolfdale or a Quad for an extra $20 would be a much better investment. He already mentioned he has RAM and a HDD. I wouldn't power my rig with what comes with the case. He has $700-$900 to spend might as well go all out on a higher end video cards. CPU Case Video Card Motherboard Power Supply I'll post my reasons later on.
  5. Overclock

It is Prime stable for over 24 hours. Did it back when I first OC'd. I just didn't like the temps. I can overclock to 2.8GHz and not get a single degree increase in temps, which I probably run the computer on that when its necessary.
  6. Overclock

As promised, 3.2GHz and my CPU didn't blow up. If you have the proper hardware, and you take the proper precautions, overclocking isn't anything to be afraid.
  7. Considering you already have some important and expensive pieces to a build $700-$900 will go a long way. What are you looking for in your build? What do you normally use your PC for?

  9. Overclock

I don't keep my CPU overclocked. I don't need the speed, but I jumped 1.1GHz on the first attempt and it was stable. No voltage increase necessary. I just set the CPU's multiplier to my highest rated settings (x8) and pushed the FSB to meet a 1:1 ratio with my RAM (400mhz). I'll do it again and post a screen shot tomorrow, too lazy to restart my computer right now. For those of you wondering 400 x 8 = 3.2Ghz Not overclocked my temps are always in the 20's, it might hit 30-31 after a while under full load. The OC added 10-15 degrees Celsius, which it completely safe considering the CPU is rated to run safely in the 60's. I have a good heat sink & fan (CNPS9700), along with a good flowing case (Antec 900). Your overclock is completely dependent on your motherboard and cpu, so everyones attempts will be different. Having a good heat sink and fan is very important, do not attempt an OC on a stock cooler. A good motherboard will just shutdown and restart under normal loads if you mess up.
  10. Edo's computer is pretty solid, and he did post the amount of RAM. There really isn't anything that will produce a major impact in its current use. I would hold out a bit longer, but If you wanted to you could upgrade the motherboard and I'm assuming the generic power supply.
  11. Happy Birthday :thumbup1:
  12. What's the exact model of the motherboard? The black slot in the picture is definitely PCI-E, but the reason I ask is because you could benefit more from a multi-part upgrade over just a video card upgrade. - 8600GT $80 - 2GB RAM $47 - 2.3Ghz X2 $59 Total = $186 shipped - $30mir puts you back in the $150 range. Those three pieces will give you a better improvement over just a $150 video card. You should at least do RAM and video card, which I would then swap the video card to an 8800GS. Someone mentioned it, but if you have a generic power supply don't buy a power hungry video card unless you're willing to upgrade. You're going to ended up losing your power supply and it can potentially take out your other hardware in the process.
  13. You can get a great deal like you just have to look. No one talks about the Olympus' compact point and shoots because their digital sensors are weak sauce. Cheaper Kodaks produce richer images imo. Nikon was in the same boat when it came to ultra compacts up until about a year ago. Great D-SLR's but they neglected the compact market. They try to cram too many mega pixels into an insufficient sensor.
  14. Or the SD850. Same camera just with a 2.5" screen instead of the 3". For $215 with a free memory card, it's hard to beat. What's the deal with Canon though? They've been regressing on their point and shoots. The S5 still uses a lens and sensor thats two generations old. The 700IS is still their best Digital ELPH imo. As far as ultra compacts Fuji gives great images and Sony's image stabilization is best in class, but $300+ for a T series hurts.
  15. Are you going for an ultra compact or quality? The price of a new S5 is close to an S600.
  16. I was a mere pre-teen when the cartoon came out. It was still cool to watch it :thumbup1:
  17. I'm going to have to go with Australia. They are the land "down" under, and you mentioned the winds head in that direction. The Northern hemisphere has the Aurora Borealis whereas the Southern hemisphere has the Aurora Australis. It's not just Antarctica that gets to see the colors, Australia and other countries are affected as well. I remember the Aurora Australis from The Wild Thornberrys
  18. Already? I thought it was a once a year thing, not once a season thing. I could've sworn the last one was just before or during the fall.
  19. What condition is it in and does it come with accessories? PowerShot's resale value isn't that great. Those camera's were $500 a year ago and Dell had them on sale for $280 shipped a few weeks ago. Most places have it in the $300 range. I would push for $220, but thats just me.
  20. Your comparing pocket point and shoots to a standard bodied S5. The digital sensors don't come close to comparing. Dpreview is the best place to go for camera reviews. Amazon also has customer provided images if you want to see samples. I don't know about the last two, but stay away from the SD1000. My much older SD600 can outperform it. The SD1100IS is a better choice. What's your budget?
  21. Who's running these test? All of the ones I've seen have the 9800GTX beating or equaling the 8800GTX Ultra except in resolutions beyond 2660x1600 where the 8800GTX Ultra slightly edges it out. For the price it wouldn't be worth purchasing an Ultra, especially for those of us with normal size screens. On top of that the 9800 produces less heat and uses less energy. It's a no brainer: 9800GTX $300 8800GTX Ultra $500 For the price of the Ultra might as well buy a 9800GX2 and truly out perform it.
  22. It means regular users don't get animated avatars. Honorable Gamer, Supporter and Admin privileges only
  23. I'm the same as you. AVG Anti-Virus, AVG Anti-Spyware, and just the basic Windows firewall, defrag, and clean up tool. I recently got Auslogics Disk Defrag and it's very fast after the the first use. I've gotten into the habit of running it daily because of how fast it is (> 5 minutes). Although, I still let the windows version do it's thing once a week thing. If you love freeware check out snapfiles. Whenever I need some random program to do something, odds are I'll find it there.
  24. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :thumbup1:
