uninstall your Nvidia driver. restart. download driver cleaner pro. run it, have it remove nvidia as well. restart. download the newest drivers. install. restart. good to go.

I've never tried, nor will I ever, so I'm not sure. But, I'd assume its a given that you would have to reformat your hard drive to go to an earlier version of windows. Also, to get it to boot from the XP cd to format it as you already said, you'd probably have to go into bios and change the sata operation to legacy or SATA or something along those lines.
