  1. the laptop i have now i bought in late summer of 2007 for a pretty penny. its got decent equipment in it, but things seem to become outdated very quickly in the computer world, and mostly with laptops, you can't replace individual hardware. it came with 2 Geforce Go 7950 GTX vid cards running in SLI mode. last time i had to format my hard drive, i immediately started having problems with running both cards so i disabled one. i didnt notice the slightest bit of performance drop in CS after i just started using one card. my question is does anyone have any experience with these geforce go cards? and since they are actual cards and not a part of the motherboard, can i use them in a desktop if i get one anytime soon? also, does windows 7 support SLI mode? at first, vista didnt and i never checked back to see if it did, so im still running XP on this thing
  2. thats a beautiful gibby on the last page! nice bass too. you have the real ESP as opposed to the LTDs? nice. i have two LTDs but id sure like to drop the cash on a real ESP one day. edit: oh yeah, here's my stuff. enjoy. my newest addition:
  3. drums and guitar for 10 years with very spotty practice on both over the last 5 years. i suck waaaaay more at guitar than i should for someone who's been playing that long :/ neji and Ai, what guitars do you own and what style(s) of music do you like to play?
  4. Tantric - Guiding Me good band, too bad the singer is the only original member, but their two latest albums that didnt have all the original members are still pretty good. i saw them open for Creed in early 2002.
  5. Any Drummers Here?

^nice. electric drums definitely have their uses but for live shows, just a good old acoustic set is the way to go in my opinoin. but electric kits can make recording much easier if all you want to do is lay down a simple beat to play guitar to. and if you're in a neighborhood that doesn't tolerate loud noise very well, then electrics are the only choice if you're able to practice. Ms. Blargh's got it right! chadwick, not so much. movies just make us look dumb or weird or unimportant. yeah we're weird, but we gotta have some smarts about us to constantly be doing different stuff with all 4 of our limbs! and in some music genres, math becomes a really important skill to possess! posess? possess?
  6. Any Drummers Here?

haha good old mike portnoy. my friends in high were obsessed with him and as much as i resisted, i took an interest to dream theater and his style. i dont always like what he does; sometimes i think its too busy, but he has influenced me quite a bit. i bought his signature 9" splash and i love it! its cracked a lot around the center but it hasnt affected the sound much. portnoy was the first drummer i remember hearing fills where your playing 16th notes and you play them like SNARE-SNARE-KICK-KICK TOM1-TOM1-KICK-KICK TOM2-TOM2-KICK-KICK TOM3-TOM3-KICK-KICK. best way to describe without attatching a picture. i dont know if he was the first, but he's the first i remember using it extensively, now EVERYONE does that and i find it annoying now so i try not to do it too much.

yeah, the cymbals you get with percussion plus and other starter sets are worthless. they arent even fun to play on since they stay bent and then lose any resemblance of tone they might have had. honestly, beginner kits, despite being made of plywood or cheap basswood, you can get them sounding good if you take your time tuning them and replace your heads more than once a year. as for cymbals, the cheapest series' made by zildijian and sabian arent TOO bad, certainly a step up from percussion plus cymbals. i notice that i dont enjoy playing when my drums or cymbals sound like crap. so for those of you find yourself not having fun, maybe look into a zildijian ZBT or ZBT+ starter pack, or sabian B8, B8 PRO, or PRO starter. also, having more than 2 crashes of different sizes can add a little variety and keep you interested? i dunno, just some thoughts.
  8. dont know you but i like your name. Hi. open door so you walk inside *haha*
  9. hello fellow musician! i havent much use for DI boxes but those look nice. i got this less than a month ago via ebay.
  10. with the crazy technology we have today, im sure if the right people put their minds to it, these could exist before not very long. ive been a contact wearer for about 11 years and i think it would be hilarious to wear these. but contacts arent incredibly cheap, and no doubt these would cost more.
  11. Any Drummers Here?

if so, feel free to list your kit, cymbals, style, # yrs playing, whats on your wishlist, etc. ive been on a kit for 10 years now, and im still using the kit i bought back then. its a 5 pc Yamaha Stage Custom set. Ive used it live many times, mic'd and not mic'd, and despite it being a lower-end kit, its not hard to get it sounding really good. ive got a mix of zildijian and sabian cymbals (blasphemy to some, i know ) i tend to like sabian high hats and chinas and zildijian crashes, splashes, and rides. id like to play in a thrash metal band one day, but im playing on and off with this 70-ish rock cover band. wishlist would include probably a higher end pearl set. I came really close to buying a 6 pc. Vision set last year but decided to put that money towards guitar gear instead. You see, I mainly play guitar now in the aforementioned band, so guitar stuff is really more important at the moment. Hope this thread goes somewhere. thanks for reading!
  12. the portal credits song is freakin hilarious. i just played portal for the first time about a month ago and i was cracking up the whole way through. hmmm, i dont know what you listen to chainedlord (hi by the way) but ill suggest a few things. bands that are quite accessible (meaning they likely appeal to broad audience) with newest purchases at the top: OneRepublic - Waking up Devin Townsend - Addicted Creed - Full Circle Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Night Castle Norah Jones - The Fall other notables: Ra - all 3 albums (From One, Duality, Black Sun) Dark New Day - 12 Year Silence both Alter Bridge albums Smile Empty Soul - self titled album If you like metal, namely the thrash/death or black side, i could suggest you a few artists
  13. Scar Symmetry and Disarmonia Mundi are excellent bands!! oh yeah, soilwork and in flames too! on the more technical side of death metal, you have Arsis. still melodic i guess. i just scrolled through all of my CDs and i really dont have a lot of melodic death. im more of a thrash thrash/death, or just death metal kinda guy. it seems like melodic death bands are hit or miss as far as im concerned. edit: oh how could i leave out Insomnium.
  14. Whats your OCD's

wow i totally get that even thing. it was a lot worse when i was little, but i still do it now sometimes but instead of just doing something with my right hand then left hand, i have to reverse it. thats the "important" thing i used to have to exit the same door of a building or room that i entered. this was hell in grade school when the line goes in one door and out another! i would sneak out of my seat and run back through the doors to reverse it. hi by the way. first post.
