The latencies of short lengths of copper ( Not everyone has a halo around their head like you do Giving even faster speeds to people who don't need it (99.99% of residential customers) will make the Internet overall SLOWER. The main routers where everything must pass through will get more bogged down. I agree that the lines everywhere should be upgraded, but the residential customers have no NEED for a faster connection. Most of the Internet traffic used right now is for P2P. Imagine then, if everyone has a lot faster speeds. What do you think is going to happen? People are going to abuse their connection more, for more and more piracy. The entire series of tubes will slow down, causing larger latencies for everyone, regardless if they are running fiber or copper.

"Fucking signal propagation, how does it work?". The latencies of copper vs fiber are so little (unless it's over a very long distance). I do agree that fiber is a lot better (it's cheaper to buy and maintain as well), but end-users who will mostly just use the speed for piracy and other illegal activities don't need that much.

Speed won't have a major difference on latencies, if you already have at least 10Mbit (most ISPs already give that). Only thing that would improve latencies would be direct connections to the servers. Won't ever work, gotta hop through all the routers, which adds on mses of latencies each one. All skiddies getting Gbit will make latencies horrible - all of them will be DoSing everywhere, making the latencies a lot worse for everyone.

Welcome to 5-years-ago-in-Europe. Many places in Europe have had 1 Gbit, even 10 Gbit in some residential areas for years now. I am somewhat happy it's expensive, less skiddies buying it then.

Google Instant is shit, due to the fact if you click a result link (that won't load) and you try to go to a new search page, it doesn't work. Non-Instant lets you go to a new page and will auto-stop the result loading.
