We were audited a few years ago by the BSA. We unlike a lot of organizations out there pay for all software we install (The fines for not paying are horrendous) Pretty sure if the company goes bankrupt you won't need to worry about a contract nor how much they pay anymore. Based on what you've said here you're not as bad off as you seemed to lead us all to believe. That aside it would be very easy in your current situation to let your boss know in very specific terms that if he expects you to continue to work the hours you do he will need to compensate you for that time accordingly or you won't be able to put in the overtime nor will you sign any contracts requiring you to stay at the job if a better offer comes up or if the chance to move back home becomes a viable option. The second job scenario is just one that your boss wouldn't be able to argue with and would most likely be able to relate to. I have explained to my boss in the past if he wants me available 24/7 (which he does) he will need to pay me enough to compensate for what I would make picking up a second job. Try letting him know in those terms why you can't work the hours he wants and that you are willing to work with him but you can't afford to continue with the situation as it currently sits nor are you willing to get taken advantage of when it comes to contractual terms.

One of your main complaints Virus was that your boss overworks you. You stated you are not living where your gf/fiance/family/etc is. So tell your boss that although you will continue working 40 hours a week you will have to leave by 5 or 6 pm (whatever you feel reasonable) because you are getting a second job. That's right a part-time evening job. This does 2 things. First it get's you out of being overworked by your current boss. He can't tell you no. He can't fire you for getting (non-competitive secondary employment). Basically he can't do jack shit about it. And if approached properly and you let him know upfront that this is so that you can get out of debt and sort out your finances he should respect the decision. Secondly if your debt/finances are really that bad then it will provide you with increased income and a way to pay it down quicker. Of course you can tell him you are working a second job and not actually get one.. but then that would be dishonest and probably not the best option. And don't tell me you can't find work. I work 3 jobs and my wife is working as well. I have neighbors that are "out of work" because they refuse to take jobs at lower pay then they were making when they were laid off. This is a bullshit excuse. I've been working since I was 12 years old. And have yet to run into a situation where I couldn't find work if I tried. It may not be the ideal job nor the best pay but if you are really willing to work you can find a second job.

I don't think anyone here can give you a good definitive answer. Make a list of the pro's/con's. I'm sure you don't have all the info you need to make the decision yet. Find out about: Upward mobility - Is there promotion/pay increase in the future or are you locked into the position/pay you are starting at. Look into cost of living - How much will you spend rent/food/transportation/etc. vs how much you will be making. Does this allow you to put aside any money. I know I couldn't live off of $15/hr my family would starve or I would lose my house. Weigh the worth of the long distance relationship and stress that will cause. Decide is this short term or long term decision? As bad as the economy is I am currently working 3 jobs. If you are motivated you CAN find work locally. Sometimes $8/hr where you live ends up being better pay than $15/hr where you have to move. Take your time and weigh your options before making the final decision and don't base your decision off of a poll on a gaming forum!

This proves your ignorance.. You refuse to read why you're wrong just so that you can pretend you're not wrong? I am an NVidia Fanboy.. mostly because of my extensive experience dealing with driver problems and lack of support for "MOBILE" (laptop) ATI cards that have been a nightmare to get working and stable. That doesn't mean that in some areas ATI can't/doesn't beat NVidia it just means that for what I use NVidia is the better option in most cases. Will I tell someone who is on a limited budget not to buy ATI.. NO I won't. Because when it comes to bang for the buck ATI wins. If you are willing to spend a bit more for the performance and in the case of the laptop cards driver availability and stability (at least in my experience and I deal with a few hundred laptops a year) then absolutely buy NVidia. Does one win in all areas No.. nor do I think there will be an across the board winner ever.

I think the only reason there hasn't been a ton of "fuck you's" is because Legal has done such a nice job of it. Really most of us - especially those of us with Families, mortgages, etc. Have dealt with or are dealing with far worse than what you listed. $5000 is nothing when it comes to health care. And when we see something that is SELF INFLICTED such as your current situation is we just have a very very hard time swallowing the whine and can't muster any real sympathy. It's not that some of your current situation doesn't suck.. it's that the real world is full of crap that you have to deal with like it or not. I doubt that anyone here has lived the picture perfect life and had everything handed to them on a silver spoon.

I think Red put this more tactfully than I would have. Accidental injury is one thing.. but self inflicted injuries should be your own responsibility. I don't see this as a flaw in our current healthcare system or on the part of the insurance company. This isn't a slam on you at all but I don't think that it should be covered.

There are many more I would add.. it's hard to limit such a big community down to 10 or so people.

The way I see it is that 1 BD can't do everything. Nor is every BD suited for every job. The forums need a BD that is willing to address these kinds of issues as well as be there to answer the questions that only a BD can answer. You are filling that gap rather well. It definitely helps the average users perception of the "Higher Up's" to know that they can get questions they have answered. I can see how some BD's get tied up in the running of the servers themselves. The forums are a political and PR beast by nature and need someone willing to address the issues that arise there. I'm glad to see you stepping up.
