  1. 8hPvtuu9CbM music videos are retarded but rammstein has some pretty funny ones
  2. I'm pretty sure you losing a battle you had a low probability of losing doesn't mean that the system is entirely or even largely luck-based. You could probably look up how battle results are calculated and see just how little the random number actually matters except in extreme cases.
  3. Just because they use spears doesn't mean they have no knowledge of modern hardware or tactics. You seem really dedicated to your anti-spearman cause but I'm sure I could find a real life case where a tank was destroyed without any weapons at all that would account for the spearman's one-in-a-million victory Or maybe not one-in-a-million, since the spearman getting a bunch of first strikes implies that they were in an advantageous position to begin with, probably ambushing the tanks. But I think we're missing the biggest point here: it's a game, get over it!
  4. I have it, the battles are fun as hell to play but I find myself getting bored pretty quick with campaigns, especially when they turn into battles of attrition over a single territory. I've been...uh...in the process of buying kingdoms for a while now but the campus network is shitty so it's taking forever. Also it's M2:TW, you got it backwards
  5. it's cold and there's nothing to do?
  6. come on guys listen to me okay guys trust me guys come on if you listen to me we'll win guys okay guys come on
  7. and kids with too much money, apparently...i'm pretty sure i don't even know anyone my age who drives something younger than 6-10 years old
  8. Yeah, tanks are a lot more vulnerable than everyone thinks they are. They could just plug up the exhaust and kill the engine, then the tank wouldn't have any hydraulic power to move the turret and there's no way you're going to keep up with any close-range targets when you have to aim it manually. There's a reason IFVs were invented.
  9. I'd definitely be interested to see how it goes with something like rap freestyling, where you have to be a lot more conscious of the rhythm of the accompaniment and also of things like rhyme and meter...you aren't really as free to be completely self-expressive as you are in something like solo free jazz which is pretty much a no-rules environment.
  10. Science News Vol. 173 (March 8 2008) p148 Riff Riders: Brain scans tune in to jazz improvisers Bruce Bower I thought it was neat anyway.
  11. If you wanna see something crazy go to Clearwater, FL and try taking pictures of the scientology headquarters :o *WARNING* You may go to jail because they pay off the police there.
  12. hey shut up you don't know me ....*cutcutcutcutcut*
  13. i'm on spring break right now so i am an expert on the subject
  14. the world would be a better place without spring break
  15. Well fortunately he's probably lying on that one since to drive with your feet from the roof you'd have to A) not have a windshield on your car B) get up on top of your car at whatever speed you were going, then somehow manage to hold on through tropical storm/hurricane-force winds which will dry out your eyes in probably like five seconds without at least some kind of protection for your eyes. C) anyone on the road would call the cops and report your tags, same thing would happen if you "passed an ambulance at over 140 which is higher than the speed governor is set on pretty much any car made today that a 20-year old would be driving. In fact I'm pretty sure any car that isn't a pure sports car has a limit between 110 and 130. He's probably like my brother who's gonna be 21 this year and still makes up stories that aren't even believable just to get people to think he's cool He once told a girl that he was a single father and that my dad is an asshole who makes him pay an exorbitant amount rent when he was like 15.
  16. Not true. Before a game you have the option of setting the seed for the random number generator to either be constant for the entire game or to change each time the game loads. If you check that option then you can just keep reloading the game until you win. The spearman had like a 1% chance of winning the fight (if that, depending on what his promotions were); but there are no guaranteed wins, which makes sense considering there's no guarantees in combat. Is a group of spearmen LIKELY to defeat a group of tanks? Probably not, but COULD they somehow pull it off? Sure. BTW that's why I always get at least two or three units in a stack that have maxed-out first strike and withdrawal promotions, it's brutal
  17. It's not a "thing he did," it's a "way he is," he apparently does it all the time:
  18. Is that what you're gonna be saying while the nurses are shoving a suppository laxative up your butt cause you can't poop from all the morphine you're on after he crashed into you and broke up your leg? How about three years down the road when you still can't move your foot and have to wear an ankle brace for the rest of your life because your peroneal nerve was bisected?
  19. Someone else will learn how much broken bones suck before he learns anything. Look at how he constantly rationalizes with shit like "well my friends are way worse" and "I've only hit the curb ONCE so I'm too good to crash even though I already did once but that doesn't count cause I just bent a wheel." I just hope when he dies he doesn't take anyone with him. Am I gonna have to show my pictures? :o
  20. You're obviously too cocky to know your limits too since you already fucked up once. The guy who performed maneuvers for the in-cockpit scenes in Top Gun had a great record until he got into an unrecoverable flat spin while doing them; get your head out of your ass, I'll loan you a pry bar. Nobody thinks you're cool or badass (and it's obvious you're trying to sound it because people who really don't care what anyone thinks don't make a point of letting everyone know that they don't care what everyone thinks).
  21. why WOULDN'T you admit to felonies on the internet, especially when you're planning on entering the military? :O At least you'll fit in with most of the Corp...I know some great guys who are in it but I know a lot more who are just like you. *E* now that i think about it i'm pretty sure steel is this guy i know who's wrecked like 3 motorcycles (one that wasn't his), shot himself in the hand "to see what it would feel like" (the bullet went into his leg and he fucked up his leg too, he says that part was an accident) and is going to jail for multiple DUIs sometime this month. Someone should really just lock this thread before it gets out of hand.
  22. Uh yeah a tank that's been weakened to the point that it has less fighting power than a spearman, and the spearman will still take heavy losses. Considering how much it would need to be damaged it'd be like a horde of spearmen attacking a pair of disabled tanks. It's not supposed to be one spearman vs one tank, it's like a regiment of spearmen at full strength vs an armored cavalry regiment at 10% strength. Combat in civ isn't complex or even sophisticated by any standard but there's more to it than just building a lot of something. You can usually tell that a game has little/no strategy involved when there's only one way to win in the game. "Researching tech and building units till you win" doesn't count. For instance, the command & conquer strategy is to simply build a shitload of units until you win. Doesn't matter if they're just cheap shitty riflemen, you'll win if you have a screen full of them. In sins I've taken out empires with fleets of 30 or less because they were well-equipped (as far as strengths/weaknesses) to take on that enemy. That's why you don't see many strategy games without unit caps or some kind of "unit upkeep" anymore, it gets rid of the problem of "I'll just turtle and build until you can't stop my army anymore no matter what."
  23. but centipedes eat all the annoying bugs like cockroaches and stuff! Here's our 4-month old Akita pup, I guess her name is Bear cause she really does just look like a bear. She's still in the "chew on EVERYTHING" stage but our kitchen + breakfast area is her inside area so we don't have to worry about her tearing up furniture. I think Akitas are my favorite breed now, she pretty much only barks when she has to go to the bathroom and she's a great pup. One time some hueg golden retriever just ran up to her barking its ass off trying to look tough and she just stares at it like "um lol hay sup" and then went and chased some leaves.
  24. then the zombie will just have a bunch of victims all in one place...although hopefully all their legs will be broken
  25. I'm sticking with TEC for now since I'm still learning the ins-and-outs and coming up with general strategies that I can hopefully apply to all the factions, but from what I've seen of the other races they'll probably end up being my favorite. I'm betting a good rush strategy will give you a big early advantage even if you don't capture anything, unlike a lot of games where an early rush puts you in a pretty desperate situation if you don't completely wreck the guy. The thing I hate about large maps is there's just so many factions and you start out at war with 0% relations with all of them, so you usually just end up getting gang raped in multiple holes before you can get enough standing with a faction to get any allies. Slavic, it's funny you should mention M2 cause I usually end up with the same problems in both games; I'll be happily stomping all over one guy and then someone else (who isn't even allied with my current enemy) will pop out of nowhere and start whittling away at me. Fucking Holy Roman Empire...it's not like I'll be even close to losing but you just get locked up in huge battles over one or two territories where both sides have enough resources to last forever and it just stops being fun when everything grinds to a halt like that. In Sins on smaller maps I don't have this problem, when I get back to school and can play it again I'm gonna try a big map with less players and see how that goes, hopefully by the time anyone makes contact we'll be built up enough to have some epic battles. That's like saying "civilization doesn't really have any actual strategy...it's just choice of tech, units or city development" I think all the units are pretty nicely balanced so it rocks to find someone who built nothing but carriers (which rape pretty hard) and just wipe out all his bombers with flak frigates. It's also rare to find a game where you can completely turn the battle around with just one or two support units, which is awesome. And you know you can use up to 8x time compression right? :o In 1v1 games the pace can be slow, especially at the start, but in bigger games you'll really appreciate it, it's just right to be able to manage multiple fleets on opposite ends of the system. One thing I'd really love to see is the ability to intercept fleets between planets though. And a little more variety in planet defenses with more varied strengths and weaknesses, building 2-4 repair platforms and having 20-something gauss cannons around them takes a LONG-ass time to break through, even with multiple capital ships. It's a great game for players who like to turtle, for sure
