  3. It's not very often that the regulars of the community are filled in on why changes like these are made. Understandably, it's not always important, and may just stir drama, but I do find reasoning important when assuming someone else's perspective or aiming to rebut a certain point of view. While I suppose it's not entirely necessary to share your speculations when offering counter-points, this is something that I have trouble understanding the reason for in the current implementation. While eliminating the Presidential Award in lieu of a "Presidential Rank" seems reasonable to me, I can't fathom another explanation to why longstanding previous Legends no longer get powers other than if they can no longer be trusted with them. While it's not always best for the Board to share their reasoning with the community, anyone even marginally invested in a topic considers the reason for it, and I feel that that ?is a very important part of feedback.
  4. While I'm sure this was a long time coming, I don't think it's a stretch to say this wan't in part catalyzed by many of the recent incidents and demotions involving LGs. To me, LG has seemed like a nice way to part ways with a long time staff member, acknowledging their work and making their time easier should they choose to play on the servers from time to time. I'm not entirely familiar with much of the drama that's gone on recently, but in the past year, I'm fairly positive at least a few people have been demoted from staff positions to the LG rank. This is something that hasn't sat right with me. While it may be done with the intentions listed above, I don't think you could blame someone for interpreting it as just appeasing the parties involved. These are people who were heavily invested in the community, and now have to sit by as a glorified SA. From my perspective, demoting someone to LG is asking for trouble, and may be one of the reasons why this change ever had to come to fruition. I don't think its at all likely that you'll have issues with people that have intentionally parted ways with the rank, and are no longer invested in the community. While I don't have any footing in the conversation, I feel this gives the impression that HGs don't really matter and that LGs can't be trusted. I have no doubt that these changes were made with the best of the community in mind, but I don't feel that many of these people should be effected by the actions of so few. The distinctions here seem quite vague to me, and I'm curious about if they would've even made a difference. Despite any the drama prior to these changes, I don't think there's a previous LG that I knew that couldn't, at the very least, be trusted to administrate the servers. These are people that grew up in this community, regardless of what schizo shit they're raving about in shoutbox, they have enough decency not to subject the servers to abuse. Just for clarity's sake here, these are just my own guesses to what could have contributed to this change, and I could be totally wrong about all of it. However, I'm really having trouble discerning why these changes needed to be made, or what positive impact they are meant to have.
  5. I'm personally a big fan of this idea. New items could spice up gameplay, adding new ways to play and giving CTs a little buff. I don't think that a golden gun fits into our server, unless it was reserved solely for last CT. I do think, however, that med-shots and a radar would be a good start to give CTs a good buff and help them enforce more effectively. I personally don't think teleporters should be implemented as they may actually encourage CTs to bail on their team instead of enforcing in sticky situations, combined with the fact that most maps already features certain teleporter secrets or regular teleports. I'd like to hear if anyone else has ideas for items that would be useful for CTs to enforce. This is something I can really see in Jailbreak's future if we can get some of the right ideas down. I worry that these buffs may skew the server to be a bit too CT sided at max ratio, but the ratio plugin can always be adjusted accordingly.
  6. Mercy FluiD Kieran and @idealist is definitely a contender for the worst ASMR I've ever heard
  7. I don't particularly think it's all that important that each person holding a rank has a rank name that is singular and makes sense as a title for them. I think it's more important that ranks properly describe their roles and they don't get too jumbled. As an example of this: Internal Affairs. Internal Affairs Officer/Investigator is a fucking mouthful and I'd hate for people to have to zoom in and put their reading glasses on anytime they want to find the person they need. Obviously color coordination helps with that, but if we match the titles to the rank bars, it's going to look nasty. Additionally, Internal Affairs (irl) is generally in charge of investigating misconduct within a force, hence their title being Investigators. So yes, that title makes sense, if you're using the title to describe them handling Staff complaints and conflicts. I don't really think this is what the role is primarily about though. While it's not as badass, Human Resources probably more accurately reflects the responsibilities of the rank. If a player needs to get ahold of an admin, they ask for an admin. If they need to get a name change, the ranks are so convoluted and abstract that they're going to need someone else to point them in the right direction anyways. I don't think the semantics of whether someone is a Board or a Director is all that important as long as they can figure out what someone's rank might do, and whether or not that's the person they need to help them.
  8. I like the thought behind this quite a bit. The C4 generally isn't very effective. With the shortest fuze being 15 seconds and damage being spotty through walls, people tend to have more than enough time to get away. The jihad isn't particularly popular either, considering it kills the user, and is often negligently discharged. Something like this may work, but it would have to do relatively low damage and be pretty obvious. At the point where this would need to be balanced, you'd probably be better off with a negev or a molotov though..
  9. This is merely a tool that would potentially allow captains to pick more fair teams, not a system that would automatically balance them. Having any tool, even something as mundane as KD, would be better than nothing, as captains are not required to pay attention to it. The concern that players would try to play differently to increase it is genuine, but showing it only to captains when teams are selected would certainly cut down on this. ESEA's RWS system is based primarily on damage dealt and bomb plants/defusals. This is fairly objective oriented, and encouraging players to deal maximum damage and objectives if they wanted to grind such a stat, wouldn't be such a bad thing in my opinion, compared to using something like KD that would encourage players to wait till late round, when everyone is already below 100 HP. This isn't even a stat you have to show in any way. Players could simply be organized on the selection menu in descending order of average RWS. While players that tend to "be a team player" instead of fragging out may feel shafted by this, it's not like they're the first pick already. I would really love any sort of system like this, and I think it would help a great deal when a rando gets captain or the captains do not recognize a player on the server. They're under no obligation to choose players with the highest RWS, but it would still give them some sort of metric to work from when choosing a team.
  10. They're not "already using the application", they're not using our server. With Discord making it so easy to create servers, many of them have said that they have their own servers. I'm not sure how much effort has been put into polling or asking players which platforms they use and prefer (likely not enough), but , regardless, the common assumption is that Discord is a more popular platform for younger people, that many are already using. While it was likely sarcastic, you've answered your own question already: people aren't using our Discord because it appears dead, and shutting off one platform, or encouraging players to migrate, will make the Discord more lively, increasing our chances of having players that stick around. The Discord has already been reorganized to be more useable, and a lot more thought has been put into moderation and implementation. I don't know what else is in the pipeline to be shipped, but I would agree with Kieran that changes should be made for Discord to be more useable/enticing before we make a full migration.
  11. A large majority of our playerbase on the servers have no interest in using Teamspeak because it "old and lame" and isn't in line with the Discord culture they're used to. While we do get new regulars into using Teamspeak, it is a rather small portion and is generally people who are already invested in the community by regularly playing the servers or frequenting our forums. As time goes on, unless Teamspeak becomes popular again, it's only going to get harder to gather and retain new players in the Teamspeak. This is why we went about creating a Discord in the first place. Unfortunately, our Discord is a ghost town because the majority of our Staff and some regs use the Teamspeak. Despite claims that we can have both, nobody is using our Discord VCs or even our text channels because of our already established population on TS. We need people to populate our Discord for new regulars to actually want to stay and talk. I personally hate Discord. I don't agree with the perspectives of the company that owns it, I don't like the culture it fosters, I find it's functionality to be counter-intuitive at times, and despite it's claims of "superior or equal" vc quality, it shits the bed from time to time without any way of troubleshooting it. I still think this change is inevitable, and it's better for us to get ahead of it, rather than letting TS slowly die off as oldfags leave, and scrambling to get population on a Discord that is empty. Anyone who thinks that we can have both SHOULD be the ones populating the Discord. We need people populating the Discord to foster a population of regs. Pulling the plug last year may have been a bit premature, but it's likely the only way we will actually get people to use the Discord. The amount of growth we are blowing off because we prefer one platform over another that already has very similar functionality is kind of sad. This is something I sympathize with the most. I don't think it's arguable that you're going to get the same VC culture and tight knit relationships that TS has fostered over the years. Nonetheless, I still feel this change is inevitable, and it is in our best interest to expand and connect the community by switching entirely to Discord.
  12. It's called ergonomics. Reading with your head at a 1° clockwise tilt reduces eye and neck strain.
  13. Seconding Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and also Toy Story 1 or 4 I don't think these would necessarily make great movie night screenings as we generally go for something more funny, light-hearted, or memeable, but you should definitely watch Parasite as soon as you get the chance. 1917 was kind of a bore, reminded me of a watered down, artsy version of Come and See. MC making a dumb face and wandering through the plot. I'd recommend Apocalypse Now, Das Boot, The Deer Hunter, and Threads (even if it's closer to the horror genre). I'm watching A Hidden Life right now, and the pacing is annoying, but I'll let you know if it's worth the watch when I'm done.
  14. The issue with this is that players will vote for a beacon when a round is "dragging on too long" rather than just when someone is breaking the rules by camping. For someone to be playing by all the rules and have their round suicided because others are impatient is a big no-no in my book.
  15. I think this may just flip the problem the other way. CTs would flee site if they're outnumbered and Ts wouldn't go for the retake or defuse if they don't think they could make it. I don't really think including KD is necessary on the server at all. It's already tied into the points system and doesn't directly indicate someone's proficiency in the gamemode. If it's the source of so many issues, we could just remove it altogether.
  16. I'm totally on board with this idea, but why not go for some more polished an balanced maps? There's plenty of maps that have previously been featured in competitive by Valve or that have won various mapping contests that I think would be a good fit. Maybe Tulip, Santorini, Biome? Players might be somewhat familiar with these maps, making them easier to play on without practice, and have a fair bit more polish and balancing than gamebanana randos. Might be a bit closer to what scrim regs would go for, but I'm not sure.
  17. Welcome aboard, @WillofCamelot and @Bright and congratulations @20 scrolls !
  18. We like this idea a lot, and are looking into implementing it. We already have custom chat tags for Subs/VIPs so we are only planning to implement this on the scoreboard. Thanks for the suggestion and stay tuned
  19. Why not donate it for Sub/VIP/Credits and see it in the next raffle?
  20. A scout that can't scope is mostly harmless against other CTs not in the LR. If the T were able to zoom in, it wouldn't be terribly difficult to take out an absent-minded CT not in their LR. I think the risks of enabling Ts rebelling is a bit too high, and not very unique from our already present noscope battle LR.
  21. [video=youtube_share;90WD_ats6eE]
  22. This is dependent on the type of !LR you are in iirc. In most LRs you are able to throw your weapon and pick another up with the exception of a knife fight, I believe. One thing I find very annoying is not getting a weapon or being able to pick up a weapon in knife fights as a CT. Very often, as last CT, Ts will spam you with LR requests to find your location and force you to be stuck with a knife. Considering the button to accept LR is always the same as the button to switch to your primary, it sucks major dick. I think all LRs should allow your to pick up weapons, and just count it as cheating, cancelling the LR, should you pick up or switch to a weapon you shouldn't be using for the LR.
  23. I like this idea. I assume the flashing circles are similar to the !beacon command minus the annoying beeping. JB already features skin colors iirc so it can even be confusing to experienced players. Without the sound, they wouldn't be terribly obnoxious, my only concern is them flashing through walls and alerting other CTs/Ts of their location that aren't in active LR with them. TTT uses indicators that show above Detective/Traitor buddies heads and don't show through walls. Maybe this would be a better solution: a small triangle that just reads LR.
  24. Herein lies the issue. Since you HAVE to issue another warning shot each time the order changes, Ts would be able to disobey every order once, making it hell for CTs, especially during peak hours.
